He keeps ripping them at the knees.

I use the iron on denim patches for my kids jeans. They go through the knees so fast.

My mom had a really good idea that I'm going to try when they get new ones though. She said when you buy new jeans, turn them inside out and iron on some patches on the inside of the knees. That way they are reinforced and won't wear out as fast. Also being on the inside, the child can't pick at them.

OK, this is what I do. I get an old pair of jeans and cut patches in shapes my kids like - trucks or even just squares or rectangles (hearts and flowers for girls). I buy this stuff called HeatnBond Ultra Hold (they have different strengths, but UltraHold is the best) - you can find it in the quilting section of your favorite store. It's kinda expensive, but a little goes a long way. So, I sew the holes in the jeans shut, then wash and dry them without fabric softener (very important). Cut the HeatnBond to match the patch, then iron it on according to directions on the package. It works really well. I like to do this before they even start wearing the jeans.

You can buy denim patching material at most material stores and if you don't want to sow it, you can also get either spray on fabric adhesive or iron on adhesive and just stick the patch over the whole! Viola- no more wholey knees.

You might want to look into pants with reinforced knees, I think Wal-mart sells some usually in the Dickies brand.

You can use some cool fabrics that he likes (ie Spiderman). He might stop ripping the jeans for fear of messing up the fabric

You can try using iron-ons but when I do that, my son just picks them off. I have to iron them and then stitch them. If the rips are really bad, make them into shorts.
