My AFQT is a 48 (for active Army).. i've heard its the national average, but can you still get good jobs? I'm really disappointed at my score, but if it really wont make much of a difference to retake it then i just want to get on to the processing part. *Only serious answers please.. i dont care who thinks the Army is dumb, etc.

YES-yes-yes------retake the ASVAB--it is the most important number for the military, it will follow you your entire time in the army, does and will matter when it comes to schooling and assignments. Take time to prepare, there are books out there to prepare for the ASVAB, get one. Its an important test, don't just blow it off

You could, but if you score lower, that will become your new score and that will limit you choices even more. If you don't have the natural knowledge you will have to study A LOT to do better on the test. You need to increase your English and Math scores only. The rest of the test just helps place you in a job that you may have a natural ability for. You can go to the library and get the ASVAB study guide or buy one at Barnes and Noble. If you spend about a month studying and taking the practice tests you MAY get a better score, but again the test is based on pretty simple stuff you should have learned in school. If you didn't do very well in school there are a lot of questions you will not do very well on because even the study guide just helps you learn how to take the test and gives you examples of the test. If you don't know the meaning of a word taking it again will not change a score too much. It is up to you, but you may want to go to MEPS and see what kind of jobs are open to you given your medical and criminal background with the score you already have.

Typically, those tests aren't going to improve much score wise on retakes.

It's not like a history test, you study certain things, and you can improve.

The ASVAB measures potential. If you don't know it, you don't know it. True, you may increase a few points, but you aren't gonna go from 48 to 78.

If that's national average, that's a little scary. I scored a 97 on mine...not that that means anything really.

Yes, you should retake it. Only because if you go with that score, your job options are going to be limited. Good Luck!
