I have a flight reserved from WashingtonDC to Chicago. I have to change the flight in NewYork. I have got only 30 min to change my flight. I dont have a seat confirmed for the flight from NewYork to Chicago. Will I be able to make it in 30 min?
Last time I was unable to get a seat and got diverted to the next flight. If I call the Airways they say that I will be able to make it. But I am not sure.

I dont think that I can make it even if I check in online bcoz the seat is not reserved from newyork. I already have one from WashingtonDC.

It's touch-and-go, actually. Without a confirmed seat, you might or might not be on that flight.

Check in as early as you can (preferrably online) and you should be able to get a seat assignment then. If not, do hurry to the next departure gate.

I agree with all of the above and I will add that in the future, please don't accept or buy a ticket with a connection time of less than 45 minutes. (Personally, I prefer a minimum of 1 hour) I know the airlines say that 30 minutes is fine, but what are you going to do if your inbound flight is 10 minutes late? Also, at my airline, we are allowed to leave 10 minutes early. So that would leave you with only 10 minutes to get off the plane, go to the next gate, and get on the next plane. It's possible, but your stress level will be skyhigh.

If you don't have a seat assignment, if the flight is oversold then you would be one of the first to be bumped off. The reason you have no seat assignment is that, while there may be available seats left, you can't pick them because they are restricted in some way (for elites only, airport assignment only).

Just ask the folks at the first airport (DCA? IAD?) to see if they can assign you a seat on the NYC-ORD segment.

According to airline's policy, 30 minutes is the minimum connecting time for domestic flight. You have to make it quick provided the outbound flight don't get delayed.
