Your pet parrot....I have a Senegal Parrot and he gave me two whopping puncher bites, top and bottom beaks. Little monster, I pulled my hand away, and really had to shake him to get him off.

I have a Senegal too, she packs quite the punch, I feel your pain. Mine lures you in like she want you to pet her then she snaps, the worst part is she doesn't let go (much like yours).

I've been bitten from budgies and lovebirds, to cockatiels, conures, bourkes, ringnecks, amazons, cockatoos, african greys, macaws.... even nipped by a hyacinth macaw, but she was just a baby and testing her beak out!
When a bird bites it's not necessarily a good idea to shake your hand because it could cause the bird to loose trust in you... and thus will bite because it doesn't trust you. If your bird bites, push into the bite rather than pull away. It's also a good idea to try to pry the birds beak open. The best you can do is say "No biting" and ignore the bites (yeah, I know, how???? get used to it!). Then, either put your bird down on the floor and ignore him for a few minutes, or put him in a small cage (better to not be his own cage) away from everyone for about 5-10 minutes but no longer. Repeat this steps until your bird learns to not bite or learns to trust you.

I get bitten on a regular basis!! LOL! It's just part of owning parrots I think. I used to work in a bird shop in Dallas Tx. While there I was bitten by an Amazon and a Macaw. Here in Australia I have been bitten by heaps of different species. But...the worst bites I have received by far are from my Scaly Breasted Lorikeet. Although he is only roughly double the size of a budgie his bites are savage! When he bites he grinds his beak back and forth for maximum effect. I have a scar across the bridge of my nose from my little monster! Usually when he bites you have to force your fingers in between his top and bottom beak to make him let go. I've been bitten many times by wild parrots who are injured. They usually bite and release quickly. But pet parrots, don't have the same fear of humans, so they tend to hang on til they make you YIP!!! Just a couple of nights ago me and my partner were trying to put some ointment into Jade's eye (he has a bit of an infection). He turned on my partner and bit him 3 times before either one of us could react. My partner said it hurt so much it made him nauseous! I must confess I had to struggle not to laugh!

My sister had a pet shop years ago. I tell people, I have been bit by everything but a Tarantula. The worst was a Hermit Crab, that sucker put a Vulcan Claw Pinch on a nerve in my hand. Ouch!!!!
But, the birds hold the record of most bites. The Parrots can remove a finger if they want it bad enough. Though I still have all mine.

Try being bitten by one of them big blue winged macaws. I wasn't the one bitten, but the guy who gave away this blue winged macaw to my uncle did. That guy got bitten at the fleshy part between the index finger and the thumb. Punctured a hole right through. The guy's hand had to be bandaged and he was given antibiotics and other medicinal products to clean his wounds daily. Check to see if your wounds look infected.

A bird only has two lines of defense -- flying away and biting down. What would YOU do if someone 500 times bigger than you grabbed you in something that wrapped around our whole body?

we had a blue and gold macaw until my daughter was born. zeus went towards my daughter (she was 5 or 6 days old at the time) and when i stepped in front of him he lit into my foot as i was trying to get away he got my hand. i ended up with stitches in my foot and hand. i should have realized he didnt want to share the "baby" status in our home. he had never shown any signs of aggression up till that point.

had to shake him off cause he wouldn't let go.He can be the sweetest bird but can turn in an instant.I have learned to read his body language, but sometimes he will get me without warning.

My Aunt had some kind of parrot and he did snip at me once. Very temperamental. I got a little scratch but that was all. He was very protective of my Aunt.
