Rather than selling at on eBay or in an add in the local newsagents?
I know a lady where I live who will never give anything to a Charity shop. She would rather put it in the dustbin and pour left over food on it.
Kind is probably a better word than charitable.
When I recently moved I had the opportunity to have the second hand shop men come and buy everything I didn't want.
Instead I sent half with my driver to be given to hard up families in the area I was leaving. Half of the remainder to a charity shop and the remaining quarter I sold on to pay for all the incidental expenses that pop up when you move, like re fixing the satellite dishes.
I am sorry, but it made me feel good!

Because it is charitable - for a good cause to re-use - and not just to waste as putting in the garbage. Does not have to be an item anyway can just be an action as in helping somebody less able than yourself or even more able actually - as long as you offer help you are being charitable and long and far may it continue.

Truly this is not charity. It just getting the trash out of one house. True charity is giving something out of your necessity not out of your excess. But at least they give, and it could be the first step in charitable acts.

I don't see anything wrong with this. If you don't want it, and it could help someone else, you should give it away. Anyone who donates anything is charitable.

Because it takes more time and energy to give something away to a needly family/person than it does to simply throw it away. Also, they were thinking of someone else before they tossed whatever it was they didn't need anymore.

Because they could just throw it away but feel that it would be of use to somebody else. I always give unwanted items to charity shops, that way somebody else will have a use for it and the charity will make money.
