i strongly feel that most of our police officers are VERY efficient. i would like to know the source of your information. i would hope that your source is not from listening to people like LOS ANGE...who hallucinates about often seeing 100 police officers at the scene of a accident or often finding officers asleep in their patrol cars. as a resident of los Angele's, i can attest to the fact that the police are spread way too thin. it would take some effort on the part of the command staff to muster 100 officers to respond to a civil disturbance, let alone a auto accident. in my 10+ years in law enforcement i can easily count on the fingers of one hand, the times i have seen a police officer doze off while on duty.(at least two of these incidents were because of sheer exhaustion from stress and working too many hours) i can promise you that los Angele's police officers would give prayerful thanks if they could find the time to sleep on duty, maybe they could use this time to do some real police work, instead of running hot all night from one call to the next. there are many things that the general public does not understand or appreciate about police work but let me assure you of this..99% of the men and women who wear a badge are the hardest working, most dedicated individuals you could ever have the privilege of meeting. it irritates me to see people who know nothing, spreading rumors and lies about them.

I guess it depends on what you want from police officers.
It has been demonstrated that the perception of police presence reduces crime. Having more police officers patrolling with high visibility (marked cars) in an unscheduled pattern can reduce crime by making criminals worry that there might be an officer just around the corner.
Solving crimes after the fact calls for well-trained, efficient police officers, but that work is not done by patrol officers.
So the best solution is large numbers of patrol officers and efficient detectives.

It's hard to be efficient when your hands are constantly tied due to lawsuits. If a cop arrests a person of another race, instantly, the lawyers are called and it is prejudiced. Doesn't matter if the person is actually caught in the act. So, if more time was spent actually doing police work and less on worrying about if you are gonna get sued, maybe life would be better. Kind of like a soldier being put in a war zone and getting arrested for killing the enemy...........

I don't know where you're writing from, but here in San Diego, we NEED more police officers! We also need them to be more efficient, AND we need the "justice" system to be a little firmer on how to handle crimes!
We certainly don't need FOUR cops showing up to roust some homeless people out of their naps behind the dumpsters, that's for sure!
And we don't need the citizenry deciding whether or not "justifiable force" was enacted. There is NO wiggle room on STOP or FREEZE or DROP YOUR WEAPON!
Oh, don't EVEN get me started on how screwed up the "justice system" is here in SD!

Los Ange... Maybe they are too efficient arresting you and therefore your attitude. I would love to see a video of the 100 officers loafing on a traffic accident. Why don't you film them and turn it in to their supervisors? You got 2 hours to watch Police and know for sure they are on a lunch break that long? You got their frequency and know what they called in on? Thought so.

I agree. I see all the time on accident scenes 100 police officers wasting time chit chatting with one another when you just need 2 or 3 at most. I sometimes see these officers sleeping in their patrol cars or wasting 2 hours for lunch break. All these are waste of tax dollars. You are absolutely right. We don't need more police officers. We need more efficient officers.

I agree, I think they should go through rigorous mental assessments. Even with the training they get, they should have to take additional classes to carry a gun- and only the most competent should have that privilege. I work at the station and most of the guys are fit and great-but the young ones seem to be "getting off" on arrests, it's sad.

I agree with you 100%. It would save the whole country alot of money. And more people would respect the police for doing their job. Especially if they have just as much respect for them.
