Honestly, I agree with the ones who say 95 is out of era. Get an new computer thats more advanced than the average computer today. Because in an year or two the way technology moving all of ours who answering this question going to be out of sync. But my best advise is to back up all the data you need and reinstall your operating system.

Old doesn't mean useless. Don't be discouraged by those little kiddies who aren't old enough to know any better. When cleaning house, I pulled out an oldie but goodie computer from my closet and fired it up. Windows 3.11 was alive and well and functioning just fine all these years later.
I have a friend who has a 1932 Ford Coupe and guess what kids... it still works just fine!
I'd try jump starting Windows 95 with a Safe Mode start. Switch the thing on and keep pressing the F8 key until a list of options appears. Choose Safe Mode. You may be able to access Windows again and fix your problem. I suggest backing up your files (with floppy disks I assume) in case the old timer really quits on you.
The kiddies aren't completely wrong about getting updated. It's a very old machine and no longer supported. It won't last forever... Think about it.
Why do some people go to the trouble of replying to a question only to put you down and offer no help at all? Beats me...

To mr_think_e_knowsall - I still have Windows 3.11 on Virtual Machine - but that runs Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 so I wouldn't say that counts. I do have Windows 3.11 on an old machine in the garage though.
The same thing happened to me back in 1999. Try Safe Mode first (tap F8 as the computer loads). If this doesn't work, if you can get to the C: prompt, awaiting a command line:
C:\_
Type:
cd Windows
The directory will say C:\WINDOWS\_ Then type:
win
This should start Windows 95, if not, whilst still at the C:\WINDOWS prompt, type
dir win.com.bak
If it returns a file, type
ren win.com.bak win.com - then reboot
If it says 'File Not Found', you will have to use a startup disk or CD-ROM.
If you do not have a startup disk and you do have a blank floppy disk lying around, go to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and download the files. Put them on the disk then try and boot the computer from disk.

Let me think last time i used windows 95 and came with this problem I copied the win.com file from the cd and put it on the computer's windows folder.
Hey wait a minute goto the windows folder from your command prompt and then try to see if there is a win.com.bak if that file is there try to rename it to win.com
Command for that is ren win.com.bak win.com
I don't really know if these all will work.
But don't worry about those people who tells what you are in. you have a situation if they cannot help it then they should shut up.

It is also possible your hard drive could be faulty. The symptom is usually that you can hear the hard drive running and making ticking noises for a few minutes while it looks for files it can not read before giving the error message. As the others say, reinstall Windows first as you will have to do this anyway if you change the hard drive. If you do have to buy another installation CD use Windows ME as it gives less trouble with drivers than 98SE.

It won't boot coz files are corrupted or missing. Try making a boot floppydisk, grab your cd-rom driver incase Losdows asks for it, then press F8 at reboot to access the dos command prompt & backup any important files in dos, then try reinstalling using fix mode before trying a fresh new reinstallation of Losdows if trying to fix it fails! Read some instructions 1st if not sure!!

Windows ninety what? Whats that then? 95? Erm..... let me see now.... . Oh yeah, that was in the Jurasic period wasn't it? The days when PC's booted up in 5 seconds and had no networking or security. I think you should get rid of ur PC (or at least change the software). You do realise it's 2007? I wonder if anyone still uses Windows 3.x?
