My ancestors, or people who looked like mine did, came to this country and raped, pillaged and stole it from its inhabitants because it was a land of oppertunity. It still is, why should we fault people who need to come here to work?

The people who came here in the 1600's were fleeing religious oppression. The people that are coming her now from Mexico and Latin America are (for the most part) fleeing economic and political oppression. They both came here because of oppression, but the reasons are still not quite the same, and in the 1600's there were no laws against coming into the country without permission. I don't fault anyone that comes here honestly, but illegal immigrants have also brought some pretty nasty criminals too. And, btw, I am not aware of any of my ancestors raping and pillaging, and even if they had, I can't feel guilty about something that was completely beyond my control - I hadn't even been born yet - how am I supposed to feel responsible for that?

Maybe your ancestors did that but mine didn't. My ancestors came here in 1702,they were merchants. They started businesses ,banks, etc. They also settled the land and made it productive and bountiful. They never raped or pillaged or killed. They only improved the land for all people. I am not in the least bit ashamed of what any of my ancestors did to this land. We "white" people built a great ,rich and powerful nation just as other country's have done. We did it thru war and acquisition of land. That's what wars are all about.
Say what you will but without "white" people we would not have as many privileges as we do today. I am not some bleeding heart, supposed guilt ridden liberal that is locked in the past. I live in the year 2007 . The legal immigrants from Mexico are to be legal American citizens and so they are a part of this great nation. The illegal aliens are unlawful interlopers that need to be legal or go back to their own country. I live in the here and now not the then and was. This is American and it belongs to legal American of all colors and races.

The "native Americans" were at constant war with other tribes, they were not the peaceful gentle people you would love to portray them as. They were proud warriors that fought bravely. They rapped, kidnapped, pillaged, and murdered as well.
War is war and its always hell.

Not the same at all.

Europeans came here in the 1600's looking to create opportunity, not steal opportunity. The world was a harsh place back then. There was no country to speak of, just a disparate mix of Indian tribes. They created a country and it ascended to the best in history. There were no social programs like welfare, free healthcare, foodstamps, or public housing. The European immigrants of the 1600's knew life would be hard as hell here, and they took responsibility to make their own lives better through their own hard work, not on the backs of others.

The illegal Mexicans are the polar opposite. They come here to this country demanding rights granted by a Constitution not their own, while flying a foreign flag. Whereas Europeans came with hopes and dreams, Mexicans come with contempt. They expect Americans, who they hate, to make their lives easier by granting them tax-funded social assistance when they don't even contribute to the pool of taxes. They expect the native culture to adapt to their foreign culture.

Now, where's the parallel? Did your favorite blog site tell you to post this?

The inhabitants of the land had no laws about immigration and it wasn't united as a nation like the US is now. That time period was a time of colonization. It is completely different today. And besides that, illegal immigrants don't come here just to work.

Well your teacher is totally wrong. The hispanics came later. When California was part of Spain and later mexico for an entire 10 years, it was basically vacant. The vast majority of the hispanic people came after it became part of the US, once it became obvious that the US does a much better job of running things than Mexico. Even our most backwards and bankrupt state (California) is still more prosperous than a rich state in Mexico. As far as who is comming present day, over half of all immigrants, legal and illegal, are from Mexico.

Yes, there is a huge difference! Back then, they needed people to come over here and get a country going. Now, illegal immigrants are causing a huge problem.
