The middle eastern culture is known for its hospitality.
Arabs were the most hospitable people around and they still are in some respect. And the Iranians share the same culture through Islaam, which advocated the treating of guests with utmost courtesy.
The understanding of hospitality in the middle east is that of a man, who is free to drop by anytime to the host and stay as long as they like. The man is invited to feasts, invited to partake in events and given gifts either while his still there or when hes about to leave.
Also, those who know the culture, know that bringing gifts to the host, is also a very courteous thing to do and is a sign of good will.
For example, buying gifts for people in the West is somewhat similar with this respect, that its a sign of goodwill.
and the same and more can be said of the people of the Middle East.
