I just asked a question about who should forgive you if you would hurt me, Jesus or me? I received the next answer, that I actually mostly agree with:

"Why does anyone forgive?
It is a misconception that it is for the one being forgiven. Rather it is my understanding that it is for the person doing the forgiving. It MIGHT affect the person being forgiven, but it is made to benefit the person forgiving. Without forgiving, the person doing the forgiving woiuld carry around the resentment of the offense.
I just thought that I would tell you that. You didn't seem to know it.
We already know that Jesus forgives. But you might also forgive so that you wont become bitter"

So, does that work for Jesus in the same way? If He wouldn't forgive, He'd become bitter?

Maybe he's afraid the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

According to the Bible, God has a nasty temper...

How can you become bitter if you can not get hurt? Forgiving is for those who take offence. The more you know of Jesus, the less you pick up offences.

His aim is to make you one who is large hearted and does not get offended in the first place. But since we have to progress to that point, forgiveness helps make the world a better place to live in.

Imagine if Christians also killed for Jesus; any non-believer who talks against the bible would have a fatwa on his head! I'd rather say forgiveness is better than not forgiving.

Jesus is capable of doing the right thing all the time so He does not have to overcome bitterness. He is just. I guess He can be disappointed, but He is forgiving if we just ask Him to forgive. We become bitter, so He wants to free us from bitterness: )

God knows that it feels great to be forgiven, so He will grant forgiveness for us if we ask forgiveness. : )

Jesus forgave because He is the epitomy of love and compassion. He set the highest standard of love. He also says if we do not forgive others than He is unwilling to forgive us. We do not have to be friends with or continue to associate with someone who has wronged us and whom we have forgiven. They might not even know we have forgiven them in our heart and with our prayers/discussion with Jesus. But we should not hold any grudges or hatred in our heart for anyone. Again, this does not mean you have to put yourself back in the path to be wronged again and again by somebody. Jesus said that we should not go where we are not welcomed. But you can forgive somebody, love them as a creation of God, and pray for them - and you can do all of this without associating with the person.

Jesus forgives our sins, because we have a sin nature that caused us death. Jesus' death and forgiveness is what is required for God to allow us into Heaven.

Because of Jesus' death, God's wrath against our sin is no longer, because we are then declared forgiven. We are then in fellowship with God. Jesus is not bitter, He willfully gave His life for those who will accept Him.

When we forgive others it brings peace and the person doing the forgiving is in obedience to God. We are to forgive others as God has forgiven us.

For the person being forgiven it can bring back a relationship with the one they have wronged.

I forgive others, because Jesus forgave me my sins and cast them far from me.

If I don't forgive others, Jesus will let me suffer the tormenters until I confess & forgive.

Jesus forgave me & forgot my sins; so I need to do the same to others. This is trusting & obeying God. To love God with all ones heart & love others, even ones enemies.

Unforgiveness results in bitterness. Jesus said on the cross, "Forgive them they know not what they are doing.". So, Jesus was already tempted to harbor unforgiveness, but He forgave. He is the Sinless Lamb of God who raised from the dead victorious over death for us. The wages of sin is death, and Jesus was without sin, so raised from the dead.

youre trying to compare human forgiveness to divine forgiveness...it doesnt exactly work the same way. we can only tell by someone's words or actions if theyre repentant or not, but only Jehovah reads the heart.

Humans are imperfect and sometimes even if someone is not truly sorry for hurting us, we need to forgive them for our own sake of heart and peace of mind. It's cleansing to us because we have a tendancy towards evil.

There is no such tendancy in Christ, nor imperfection, therefore divine forgiveness comes from accurate knowledge of the situation and the ability to judge with perfect justice.

Very interesting question. Let's remember that Jesus is not just human like us. We tend to let bitterness stick with us sometimes because we are sinners and selfish. He is not. Jesus is God and His capacity to forgive is immediate and complete. For Him to be bitter and not forgive would go against His nature.

in accordance to the bible, God forgives actually everyone their sins on condition that they do no longer back and back and purposefully make a similar action many times back (the sin against the holy spirit, the unforgivable sin). So, a pedophile who quite has a concern and is unquestionably attempting to make a metamorphosis, in basic terms God can examine that guy or woman's heart and say,"I forgive you." yet a pedophile who maintains to molest and do evil issues does no longer have God's forgiveness. Did you pay attention relating to the pedophile interior the U.ok. who had himself castrated because of the fact he replaced into bored along with his sickness? Now, he lives a common existence without desire to break every physique. by ability of his movements, the pedophile quite felt harm at his sickness and went thus far as to castrate himself. So, i anticipate, perchance, God forgave him.

Jesus gave his life for us, he forgave us on the cross and asked his Father in Heaven - God - to forgive us.
Jesus came on earth to teach us to love and forgive, so how could the Lord of Love not forgive us when we are truly sorry and repent. There cannot exit hate, unforgiveness in a heart of Love.
Something for you to think about.

Jesus forgives us because he loves us.
He asks us to forgive each other because it teaches us about how to love. Whether or not you are the forgiver or forgiven person. It's a lesson in humility, submission and love for one another.
