Yes, that bothers me. And while we're on the subject, let me just say that it also bothers me that there is so much abuse of the WIC program regardless of whether or not a the person receiving it is a legal US citizen or not.

I work full-time outside the home in order to help support my family financially while others have no jobs and get money from the government and FREE formula - all of which I help pay for by my tax dollars.

I think the WIC program is great for those who really need it and don't abuse it though.

Ok, I'm done now. I get too worked up over this subject.

In some ways, yes it does. If I traveled to Mexico, Canada, or any other foreign country, I seriously doubt they would offer governmental benefits to me if I weren't a citizen.

However, if things changed to be more "fair", the people who would be hurt by it isn't really the adults who apply for them, it's their children. So the kids of the non-citizens who get WIC are hungry, all in the name of "fairness". That isn't acceptable, in my opinion. As reprehensible as I think the actions of the parents are, when the kids (who have done nothing wrong, other than to be born to adults who would use the system) are the ones getting hurt, I think you have to take a step back and reconsider some things.

It's the same thing as the Safe Haven Laws. I absolutely do not condone abandoning an infant, but I'm glad those laws exist now, because the alternative was often infanticide.

In an ideal world, WIC wouldn't be needed because everyone could afford food, and more private organizations, like churches, would be able to handle the needs of the hungry kids caught in the crossfire. That's not the case, though, so I'm not going to complain that non-citizens shouldn't get WIC, because the results would be much worse, in my opinion.

Yeah, I agree. I luckily had low enough income bracket to get WIC, but I had friends that just made too much money. And formula is highly expensive. But that is how it is. People from other countries are allotted to come over and free to use all the programs we are allowed, along with jobs. Therefore, we have a huge shortage on jobs and assistance for Americans.

Yes that does upset me. Many women who need WIC in the US are not able to get it. I think WIC is a great program to help families who need it, but people take advantage of the program.

I think what's worse than this is the situation my husband and I found ourselves in...

We had found out we were pregnant and I had to quit my job because of complications. They actually told us that since I had worked so close to applying, I WAS DENIED. My husband makes okay money, but when you take our debt into consideration, it's much less. So now we suffer, just because I actually had had a job at some point. The system works against us hard working Americans, it's so sad.

I think it is wrong but OK. The reason it is wrong is because you should have to be legal. I think it is OK because any child born in the US is a US citizen so therefore deserves those benefits. Plus I think letting a child starve over whether you are a citizen or not is wrong.

It is not the infant's fault that their parents are not citizens. In a perfect world they would be, but we should be happy to help those who are less fortunate, no matter where they come from. It is a small price to pay for helping to help a child grow up healthy. Just think that they are human beings and take the labels away. Helping the less fortunate is where we can shine, being that we are one of the richest nations in the world.:)

To better the health of any child US citizen or not does not make me mad. Also, non-citizens are mainly non-english speaking so i would think that the actual rate of them using the system would not be that high. However, people (US Citizens) that abuse the Social Security/Disability system by claiming illnesses or injuries that are not truly debilitating does make me mad.

Well I don't agree. I think that is stupid!! Also did you know that you can get our welfare and not be a citizen. These women come over from Mexico have their babies here and then collect our welfare. That isn't right either. Then we get stuck with higher healthcare prices to cover the Mexico people who think they can just come over here for free and have their baby.
