I don't think majority of Americans truly understand why illegals come here illegally. I see you all saying yea they shouldn't break the law, they should come over the right way. Which in part i understand, for security reasons and all. HOWEVER, i think there is a lack of knowledge, about why they are forced to come here illegally in the first place. Did you know that in order for a Mexican citizen to come here they have to own a business or land and have money in savings accts to even be considered for a passport or visa? How r they to come up with that money if they only make on average 20.00 a week. I just wish all of you would stop complaining and whining about a subject you truly know nothing about! Go live in Mexico for a week, n not at some vacation resort. Go into the desert, and live w/o running water, indoor plumbing, w/o any money for food. Watch a child die b/c their parents cant afford healthcare then go tell them its not ur prob. If they could come here legally they would

Well if your neighbor came to your house saying his house was on fire, what are your going to tell him? Why is that my problem? Instead of trying to throw everyone out and telling them to just go suffer, why not work w/ the Mexican Govt to create a solution for the problem? Whats so wrong w/ that?

I see 90% of the people above are not ANSWERING THE QUESTION YOU ASKED.
Pretty typical around here.
Indeed, I was not aware of a lot of these things.
I think nearly everyone is missing the boat. Indeed no it is not "our problem" either in the sense that we created the situation or we are required to fix it.
But let's take your analogy a little further. The neighbors house is on fire, they come running to me that it is an emergency, AND ALL THEY WANT IS A BUCKET OF WATER .
And then we complain that we should charge them for the water, the bucket, now we can't buy buckets because "they" all have them, they never had a right to that house, etc. And all they want to do is rebuild THEIR house.
This whole "immigration crisis" is being blown way out of proportion. Nobody is trying to "take what's ours". There is enough for EVERYONE here, in fact if we let hard working people in this Country we will ALL have MORE.

Mexico needs to fix Mexico. Why should the US have the responsibility to do it for them. I understand their problems but they are creating the same problems here. I grew up in a poor family and have lived without running water or plumbing and had to fight to get food but I didnt ask anyone do give it to me. We stayed put and worked for it. You say how do they come up with the money for a visa or passport? My question is how do they come up with the money for a coyote? They seem to manamge that.

I live in Mexico nowhere near a vacation resort and I´ve seen firsthand what it is like to live here and it is not as bad as you make it out to be. Most people have running water and indoor plumbing and make well over 20 bucks a week. No one is "forced" to go to the US illegally, they choose to because they think that they will make more money in the US. A recently published article from the Mexican newspaper "El Universal" stated that over 60% of all Mexicans who are illegal in the US had jobs in Mexico.
Have you ever been to Mexico and lived in the conditions you are describing? If you haven´t, you´re no one to preach either.

Good question...as some one mention ...why are these problems for the American people...well because The US has corrupted so many Latin American governments, just an example..free trade...with Costa Rica is not working because the US is selling sugar to them(they also produce sugar in large quantities enough for local use) but still they must buy from the US...Multinationals that buy foreign land to deplete the natural and economic resources from our countries..
Now with e85 getting strength...and the bio fuels I think even more immigration take will place because the in order to produce bio fuels you need something that we called...mmm...FOOD...and most of it (grains) will become fuel for the voracious demand from The US and Canada to begin with and then the rest of the world...
I just hope president Bush takes the initiative and the leadership to research the side effects of producing Bio fuels..think tomorrow but act today.

To answer your question (as clueless_nerd has suggested people are not doing), yes I know why illegals come here illegally (better oppurtunity, better jobs, education, immigration restrictions, to live the "American Dream"); but does that justify their illegality?
In comparison, does a drug dealer who wants: a better oppurtunity, a better education, to live the "American Dream" get a free pass because he was just "trying provide for his family?" Hell no! He must be punished just like any other who breaks the law, which illegal immigrants are doing.
Most, if not all, of us on this website and in this country period, have sympathy for illegals and understand them; but it's their illegality (and their audacity to throw it up in our face) that we, as a country, cannot stand for.
We "winked and nodded" for way too long and now we are taking a stand!
Besides, this country has millions of people who live in poverty everyday, why not take care of our own instead of Latin America's?

Maybe they should stop complaining about it and overthrow their government. Mexico has a buttload of oil. They could be the Saudis of the West if they would get their heads out of the arses. If you only make $20 a week, maybe you should not have kids? Just a suggestion. Or, or, maybe, you should apply for citizenship, save up, and move? I hear it takes years to become a citizen, by then surely you could save some money in a savings account. The reason we ask certain things of our legal immigrants is because we as a country can't take in everybody. Yes, we have a nice boat, but if we pull everybody out of the ocean, we, and everybody we pull in, go under. We have to watch out for us first, and THEN pull others out of their problems.
My answer to you is fix your own problems and stop making them ours.

All I have to say is, people who think that it is our responsibility to take care of everyone in the world should invite all poor people to live in their houses. Do you think Mexicans are the only ones who are poor and live without healthcare? It is not the US's fault that Mexico doesn't take care of its people and we shouldn't have to pay the price. And Mexico is not even interested in trying to make the country better. They are too busy trying to stop us from building a fence at the border because they want their people to come here illegally.

I sympathize with all illegal immigrants but it does not justify coming to the US illegally. Whether there is economic hardship or suffering in Mexico, it does not warrant getting into another country illegally just because their country is beside the US. There are lots of other countries with appalling conditions if not worse, whose citizens also cannot afford to legally emigrate to the US, and it is not fair on them that mexicans just cross into the US illegally.

You live in a world that is not practical. Bottom line is, if you can't afford it, don't do it. It maybe sounds cruel to you, but we need to be logical before we have the same problems as third world countries do...oh wait...WE DO! Let's take care of our homeless and our kids and our vets BEFORE we absorb more problems. You are too idealistic and illogical about the issue.

I live in Mexico. I have a nice apartment, I study international bussinesin a private university, all the services, food and I live in a very big city.
If you havent live the situations you are decribing, please dont say we live in that conditions.
If a mexican choose to go to another country (as legal or illegal) is their own decition, nobody pushes him to it.
before you speak please read, or visit here and see for yourself that we dont live like that.
