Let's assume you told me a horrible lie. A horrible, horrible lie which has hurt me very, very much. It was such a horrible lie that I even cried. Real tears.

Now, who should forgive you? Jesus or me?

Look, man...I'm sorry about that lie, and making you cry.

Your butt did NOT look fat in those jeans.

Why does anyone forgive?

It is a misconception that it is for the one being forgiven. Rather it is my understanding that it is for the person doing the forgiving. It MIGHT affect the person being forgiven, but it is made to benefit the person forgiving. Without forgiving, the person doing the forgiving woiuld carry around the resentment of the offense.

I just thought that I would tell you that. You didn't seem to know it.

We already know that Jesus forgives. But you might also forgive so that you wont become bitter.

For me I would have to ask for your forgivness and Jesus'. I believe to be forgiven by Jesus I would have had made things as right as I could with you.

I don't think I can go out and tell people lies and go home and secretly ask Jesus to forgive me, but never make it right with the people I hurt. jmo

Both of you, actually. And I'm probably going to pray to Him first to help me make amends with you. Otherwise, I might try to be self-protective and defensive when you're angry with me. I don't really like people to be angry with me.

I might even rush you into forgiving me without really wanting to let you say what you need to say in order to heal. And that doesn't work in the long run.

If I feel guilty enough over what I've done, and I'm faced with how much you are hurt, and I'm afraid that what I've done may cost me a relationship that if very important to me, I'm going to need support, and I can't very well expect you to support me because I need to be able to support _you_!

If I ask Jesus to forgive me, I know that He will, because He promises to. If I ask Him to help me mend our relationship, I know that He will. That gives me the support I need to be able to hear what I have done to you and what you need from me without me being distracted by my insecurity and fear.

Because you are important to me, it's important that I get forgiveness from both of you.

Actually, neither is all that important to me. I don't make a habit of telling lies, so if I told one there was most likely a good reason for it. I prefer to live life with no regrets and don't normally ask for forgiveness. So, could not care less if either or neither forgives me. If I was wrong, then the most important one that needs to forgive me, is me, because I have to live with me for the rest of my life.

Both, Jesus and You. When I hurt you or anyone else, I hurt Jesus too. It is simple as that. I need you to forgive my wrong for hurting you and I need Jesus to forgive me for hurting you, his brother, his child, to remove my sin from punishment and to bring peace to all three of us.

Jesus will forgive me - asking with a repentive heart...That's a given.

However, if I were to ask you for forgiveness and you deny it to me, that says more about you than it does me.

Jesus would want me to ask forgiveness from you and make it right, and then Jesus forgives me too. : )

deserving forgiviness and getting it are 2 different things.
Would I deserve your forgiveness...no.
So the real question is to you, would your forgive me or would Jesus??

Well I don't know. Jesus is a pretty cool dude. You might be too, but you have to prove it (Jesus has a whole book written about him, what do you have?)
