Does your kid send himself to his room when he disobeys or do you send him? Do bank robbers choose to go to prison or are they sent? They don't choose, the jury does. The point is that God determines the punishment. God could send nonbelievers to time-out instead of Hell. HE CHOOSES where you go, not you. Good thing he doesn't exist.

You act like God has no choice in what happens to you.

NewCatholic: It's yours, but that's a totally different situation because there is no conscious person carrying out an action based on your decision.

p_i_gray: You say "Just like the murderer chooses to murder resulting in prison."
-- The murder chooses to murder, he does not choose to go to prison. He is forceably sent there. He thinks there is a chance he can get away with it. He doesn't WANT to be in prison. If your child disobeys, is he choosing a timeout or choosing a spanking? He doesn't know which he will get because YOU choose it.

You choose the action, you don't choose the result - you accept it.

Interesting question. I sense a rising tide of nonsensical babble.

Every choice we make has some sort of consequence. There are laws in our universe on our planet. Maybe you will understand better if it is said this way: "Be not deceived; God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. then the written word continues to say: "For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth, to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting > And let us not be weary in well doing for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. sooooo> As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men (mankind) especially unto them who are of the household of faith gal 6:7-10. Knowing this are you going to do and or keep doing things that will end you up in hell/the lake that burns with fire or, rather do and or keep doing the things that will end you up in heaven? It is your choice by your action; there is an age that a child shall have to give an account to God for his/her self. Just think if we did not have some laws > like bank robbers going to prison would you keep your money in your home or in the bank; did you consider which one will be easier for the bank robber/ and if this robber is old enough to know he is robbing a bank he/she should know the consequence....etc.....etc.... Anyone that knows to do good and does it not it is sin. The wages of sin is death; this type of death is to be eternally without God. Most people back in the old days did not even know how to read nor did they finish school > do you think they knew right from wrong? well the answer could be yes/no. Know this back in the day they knew about the written word of God and the Triune God and that it is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God; you can take that to the bank, if one may say. We should live our lives by the written word of God, the key being accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. 1+1+1=1 (LOVE)

C'mon people you are being to kind. This is a stupid question as well as an idiotic analogy. Lets take the OJ case for example. He's a murderer, but he got away with it. Is there human punishment for his actions? Now for the believers, his punishment will become at his time of death. For the non-believers is over he'll "rest in peace" unpunished. As for the disobeying kid, do you really believe that he chooses to disobey? His actions, more than anything, are driven by impulse and the time-out is not punishment, is a behavioral tool to help them differentiate between right or wrong, human or personal right or wrong. There's no punishment from GOD if he decided to disobey and eat the cookies you told him not to. Finally, the crime committed here are crimes against society. The punishments are "determined' by society not by GOD. GOD for those who believe in him, only provides the guidelines for human behavior in order to reach "HEAVEN" or "HELL".Again, for the "existentialists" or "agnostics" if you may, everything happens here, this world is their heaven or hell. So, you will pay for the consequences of your actions according to human law and the concepts of your believes.

One does not apply to the other. God alone condemns a person to hell. However, a jury sentences someone to prison. The two are completely different. A murderer may be sentenced to a term in prison, but only God can condemn him/her to hell - and He may not choose to do so.

There is a difference between earthly punishments, such as going to your room and going to jail, and spiritual punishments, such as going to Heaven or Hell. And in either case, you ARE the deciding factor about whether or not you are punished. YOU are the one that decided to get yourself in trouble to begin with. Nobody forces you to do wrong, that's your own choice; but when you do, there's a price to pay. Same with God. He gives you a choice. It's up to you to choose which path you will take, and when you refuse Jesus and deny needing a Savior, then that's your personal choice, and thus, paying the price of Hell by your own admission. And I think that you have thought this over to ask such a question, and perhaps to wonder about your own self. The ending sentence "Good thing He doesn't exist" makes you sound nervous.

Well, let me ask you this: does the jury cause the man to commit the crime he is punished for? No, he was free to do it or not. Of course there were consequences.

Listen, just because you don't like the idea that God sends people to hell doesn't mean he doesn't exist. Nor does it mean that God sends people to hell the way you think (as if he were an angry spiteful God who is getting back at those who didn't do what he wanted... a divine temper tantrum).

Please open up your mind and your heart.

By the way, other than knowing that certain people are in heaven (saints, because miracles occur due to their intercession) we don't know the final destiny of any particular person. God's mercy is bigger than we think, and His love exhorts us to live in His love, a love that wishes that we be unified with Him, in His Son and through His Soly Spirit.

God wants more than just a fulfilling of percepts. He wants us to truly be in union with Him.

I have to argue with you on this one.

We know what the consequences for our actions are, and we make the decision to take an action or not. WE decide our future. The jury (or God) would only be telling us that we've won ourselves the very consequence we were quite aware of before committing the action.

Why a God would give us this choice, however, I'm not sure.

"Does a murderer send himself to prison or does the jury"

Really?

When you choose the behavior, you choose the results.

The jury doesn't choose for the murderer to kill someone. The jury doesn't even choose the law, they are instructed. They are not culpable.

Our actions affect others and have consequences. It is in our best interest to understand that. Otherwise our lives are at the mercy of others.

We send ourselves to hell when we choose the behaviors. Abdicating responsibility for our lives won't get us anywhere. In this life or the next.

Stop ranting, its clouding your powers of reasoning... take a breath. Its simply cause and effect. By murdering someone you have inadvertently chosen death row...you knew before you took that ones life what the penalty was, but you did it anyway. It works the same way for the unruly child or the bank robbers or those who reject JESUS CHRIST. Also, there is a GOD... and YOU will be held accountable for the way you lived your life and for your rejection of HIS SON JESUS CHRIST...it doesn't matter if you don't believe it...KNOW THIS, if you persist in rejecting JESUS to the grave YOU WILL SPEND ETERNITY IN AGONIZING TORMENT... I don't mean to be blunt but I think in my spirit this is what you need to here. JESUS is good sir, HE just cannot tollerate sin at any level. If you understood the severity of sin you would see this. You should spend some serious study time as to whether the bible is true or not. Don't gamble with eternity sir. Once you die it is to late to change your mind....

Yeah. It's your choice not to follow God, so logically, you ARE sending yourself to hell, when you could be saving yourself from it.
A murderer has no choice when he is condemned to prison. But he DOES have a choice whether to murder a certain person or not. IT's the same with God. You have a choice to accept him or deny him on earth. But when your time's up, there's no way of turning back. God's the judge then.

You chose.

Just like the murderer chooses to murder resulting in prison.

Just like the child chooses to disobey resulting in being sent to his room.

Just like the bank robber chooses to rob the bank.

There is a choice... believe or don't. There are consequences to your choice. You choose.

Wow that was pathetically simple. Let me know when you have a question that challenges my faith.

{edit} You've made my point for me. You choose not to believe. You get to accept the consequences. Are you truly going to argue this.... because if you are, you're doing a bad job.
