Because somewhere along the lines discipline of children went right out the perverbial window.

Our country has a gift that few other countries have which is also our downfall, freedom.
Freedom of speech, the press and religion have brought us an abundance of pleasure in choices. Unfortunately, these freedoms have been stretched to ridiculous limits and have protected dangerous and demoralizing images and sounds.
So our country, through its great pride in giving all people of the world opportunity and freedom without having to pay a fair price, has driven itself into the ground by allowing the "greedy" and the "seedy" to poison our future.
They focus on our youth. The youth is easily persuaded and they are mental sponges. They are also the ones that will be taking care of us when we get old. I weep for the future.

Because of the persistence of Puritan thinking. This is a fatalistic way of looking at life that imagines that your morality is dictated to you by an external authority to which you have a duty to grovel, bow, beg and pray.
This Puritan attitude of submitting to authority is the Christian equivalent of Islam, the very word "Islam" implying submission to Allah, *Inshallah*.
People taught from childhood to bow down to a father figure in the sky do not acquire the habit of self-responsibility and taking control of your own behavior as an individual. They learn that morality means obedience to authority rather than observing the consequences of your free choices and applying reason to what you see.
Max Stirner, in his 1845 essay "The Ego and Its Own" describes the way your society conspires against you right from infancy to prevent you from becoming a free autonomous individual.
Thus, many Americans grow up morally crippled, unable to be both free and morally responsible at the same time. They come to accept that morality consists of submitting to rules made by others.
The English suffered from Puritanism, and Oliver Cromwell became their dictator. They exported this destructive lifestyle to the Massachusetts colony. But when Cromwell died, the people of England rejoiced and happily repudiated all aspects of this anti-life, anti-freedom philosophy. This rejection of Puritanism was the Restoration, when Charles II became monarch.
Unfortunately, America never had anything like that repudiation of Puritanism. The poisonous doctrine of self-hatred and self-distrust creates groveling people who think that the essence of morality is to obey authority.
Thus our culture breeds loathsome fanatics like Pat Robertson, Fred Phelps, and the ignorant Kansans who want to prevent children in school from learning science, so the children grow up into another generation of ignorant hayseeds, singing "Trust and obey."
George Bernard Shaw said: "Liberty means responsibility. That is why most people dread it."
Moral decadence is the result of suppressing self-responsibility and enforcing blind obedience in its place.

Hollywood (the land of make believe) and liberals who nurture, cultivate and defend any type of immoral, decadent behavior and shout and cry at the mere mention of Christians, God, and family values. They see these morals and ideas as some antiquated way of throwback traditionalism that is a bad thing for their "progressive" way of thinking..

Morals are relative, what is "wrong" in one culture is okay in another. After all the way the repressive Islamic countries treat women is absolutely immoral to me!

Because we are free.
One man's "moral decadence" is another man's good clean fun. Do not judge.

We as a country have become spoiled into thinking that we have done everything on our own and no longer need God or Faith.
This hurts respect for life, even our own.
Peace!
