There is scripture that indicates a common ancestor: Abraham. Abraham had a child by his wife's maid servant, Hagar. Later his wife gave birth to Isaac. This resulted in Hagar being thrown out with her child, Ishmael. Ishmael became the Arab tribes and Isaac became the father of Jacob, also known as Israel. Part of what we witness in the Middle East is a family feud that goes back roughly three thousand years.
Hope this helps!

There are two types of Arabs:
1. The Qahtanites (descendants of the Biblical Joktan. The majority of Arabs are from Qahtanite origins and these are the Arabs proper).
2. The Ishmaelites (these are descendants of Ishmael, the eldest son of the Prophet Abraham. The Quraysh tribe from Mecca is an Ishmaelite tribe. There are probably some other Hijazi tribes which are Ishmaelite as well. Muhammad descended from the Quraysh tribe and all of His descendants, including the 12 Shiite Imams, the Hashimite dynasties of Jordan and Iraq, the ruling dynasty of Morocco, as well as the countless thousands of sayyids and sharifs scattered around the world. The 19th century Prophet, the Bab (1819-1850), descended from Ishmael through Muhammad, as well as Shoghi Effendi, Guardian of the Baha'i Faith and the Afnan family.)
Thirdly, there are Arabs by adoption. The Arabs of Iraq are mostly Assyrians, who originally spoke Syriac (Aramaic). They became Arabized after the adoption of Islam. Similarly, the Egyptians are mostly ethnic Copts who adopted Arabic. The same goes for almost all North African Arabs, who were originally Berbers before adopting Islam. Most Lebanese and Syrian Arabs were originally Phoenicians and Canaanites. The same goes for Palestinian Arabs, who were also of either Phoenician, Canaanite or Israelite origin. These are all Arabs by culture and language, but not by descent.
