I am a christian and as stated in the bible there a different levels of angels. The high angels stand around the throne of the Lord and sing HOLY HOLY all the time. Other episodes in the bible state that angels are used to bring messages to people. I do not believe that everyone has a guardian angel, that is giving angels too much credit and taking away from the Lords glory. I recommend reading Angels, Demons and Other Flying Creatures by Stephen Davey. You can find it at wisdomonline.com.

An angel is a supernatural being found in many religions. In Christianity, Judaism, Zoroastrianism and Islam, angels, as attendants or guardians to man, typically act as messengers from God.

i am not a religious person and do not believe in angels, but i do believe in an aura.

There is no difference between the word translated "angel" and the word translated "messenger" anywhere in the Bible. If you're reading original languages, sometimes you have no way of knowing whether a messenger is an angel or not.

That seems to be their most basic function - to relay messages.

Among other things, they are servants of God to relay messages, worship Him, and occupy heaven. They are also, most importantly for us, called to serve those who are being saved. Beyond that, they have been called upon to fight the devil, heal diseases and to slay armies of the wicked. In the end, they will have a hand in destroying the earh, gathering the elect and separating out the wicked.
