Because he wants to bring down as many people with him as possible. Judging by the state of the world, he is doing a good job.

You are correct the devil is doomed. One must remember what got him (devil) kicked out of heaven? Well he wanted to be like God and thought he (devil) could take heaven from the Trinue God along with all the angels; now let us remember what Jesus Christ said while walking our planet in our universe, one had to laugh when one read it because it is kinda funny, anyway Jesus Christ said, paraphrase of course somewhat, "He (Jesus Christ) saw the devil fall from heaven like lightening and please know that a third of the angels fell with him (devil). Know this we are in time, we live by it and the planet and our universe when created was created with something one may call a time table; meaning = a set time for things to happen. Now knowing this, know that those (people) that choose Jesus Christ the Son of the true and living God, as their Lord and Savior, will spend eternity in heaven with the Triune God. Since the devil believes himself to be some sort of god and he (devil) knows that his time is coming to and end and he knows what his end is, so in is play, what ever God does good and gives mankind, the devil perverts it; and tries to get people to believe his evil ways; and because some people love darkness rather than light, they (people) choose the devil and to obey him; so through out time the devil will try to get as many people as he (devil) can to go with him to hell the end of all evil being the lake that burns with fire; that was not created for man; the sad thing is that, some of mankind will make the wrong choice now in time and space that will determine where they (people) spend eternity. 2 important choices. = 1. The Triune God/Jesus Christ being our Lord and Savior/ and the Holy Ghost being our helpler/comforter/guide into all truth. 1+1+1=1 or 2. the devil > It is good for one to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior as soon as possible, these days more than ever in time and space, one believes the darkness is getting thicker and, it sometimes, at least for me is hard to see clearly; that is when I really press in and seek God and ask that His (Gods') will be done; then sometimes one may not have time to pray; so that is why it is good to stay prayed up as one may say; because not only are there wolves in sheeps clothing, you may not without the help of the Triune God be able to tell the difference, but not to worry, per God the sheep and goats shall be parted one day. Trust and Obey. We walk by faith not by sight and remember faith works by love.

He represents the evils and temptations to be selfish and do for yourself or the wrong reasons rather than right. How many times has war killed innocent people? How many criminals are out there that steal or kill others? How many people out there are racist?
so..maybe, if there is a devil and god, he (the devil) knows how strongly these temptations will be to people and how much harder it is to do the right thing than what you want to do.

Perhaps he has to continue to do as he is supposed to because he is ordered to.

An interesting verse:

1 Sam 16:16 "Let our lord now command your servants who are before you. Let them seek a man who is a skillful player on the harp; and it shall come about when the evil spirit from God is on you, that he shall play the harp with his hand, and you will be well."

Who sent the evil spirit?
The spirit was under God's command.

1 Sam 16:23 So it came about whenever the evil spirit from God came to Saul, David would take the harp and play it with his hand; and Saul would be refreshed and be well, and the evil spirit would depart from him.

Since there is no devil, he's not 'doomed to lose'. Read "The Origin of Satan" by Elaine Pagels. It's a manmade myth.

The Devil is on God's, Jesus's, and The Holy Spirit's side.

There is a difference between The Devil, Lucifer, and Satan.

Who do you think God uses to do the "dirty work"?!

If everything is according to God's plan and God created everything, then the devil is his creation and sent here by God to hurt us, test us and steal our souls.

Does that make sinning God's fault?
