Why DOES one aspire to be a male nurse....the same reason a woman decides to be a nurse.

Men probably aspire to become a nurse for the same reasons women do; job security, interest in medicine, desire to help people.

I'm a retired nurse and never regretted going into nursing. It's never boring. There's always something different happening. You can never know everything about the job. There are new advances all the time, so it's challenging.

Contrary to what you may think, nurses have unlimited opportunities for career development. Do you want to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment? Critical care nurses and military nurses have some of the most demanding and interesting jobs available. Want to be on the cutting edge of science? Nurse researchers and practitioners often have opportunities to employ the latest medical technologies. Interested in a career in business that incorporates your desire to improve patient quality of life? Consider a joint MSN/MBA. Need to work different shifts to spend time you're your family? Many nurses are not constrained by the nine-to-five work shift that others must accept.

Many nurses, male and female, enjoy the amount of time that they can spend with patients on a daily basis. Nurses can work with any social group in countless settings, from county general hospitals to private family practices. Nurses become trusted members of their communities and their patients look to them for medical advice. Increasingly, doctors and nurses view each other as peers in the health care field; nurses are respected members of the profession who bring their own unique exeriences to the field.

For the same reason women do...great pay, benefits, and an opportunity to make a difference. Nursing is no longer just pushing bed pans and giving bed baths. It is a highly technical and integral part of the patient care process.

to help other people? because they think it sounds interesting? because they want to work like a nurse but not a doctor? who knows? i hope you're not implying there is anything wrong with a man choosing to be a nurse.

also as to the answerer who said men aren't as 'grossed out' that would be in direct contradiction to the fact that a large number (or even a majority) of nurses are already women, so obviously, they don't get that grossed out either.

demand. with a larger (number and weight) you need people to help. but with the average weight going up you need male nurses to help with moving patients. plus a large cash signing bonus right now makes me think about it
