Why do people do that? I mean, dont they find it rude, hurtful and disrespectful? I bark at my cousin everytime he does that.

I am a large man and a few weeks ago the students in the flat above me dangled a cheese burger on a fishing rod outside my window, when I went to grab it they hoisted it away and laughed. I should not have to deal with things like that but I think you just have to get on with life.

I don't know but there was a comedian a few years ago who touched on the subject when commenting about the way smokers were chastised and wondered weather this would be the future for fat people with comments like don't you know how bad it is for your health etc. I guess he was right.

Anytime a person judges or condemns another person it is offensive. Good for you in trying to stop these behaviors, standing up for the "victim" It can be considered poor etiquette to correct others' behavior. But some people are never going to seek knowledge to treat others with respect, so thank you for seeking answers.

People just like to make fun of people who are different from the "norm."

Notice how people who are really thin also get chastised and made fun of. It works in pretty much all directions.

People do things like that because they think it makes them feel better about themselves. They try to tear others down, thinking it's really going to help their own low self-esteem issues. One day, when they grow up, they will realize that it doesn't help. It will actually make them feel worse.

There are, however, those who will never grow up or grow out of this hateful phase. Those are the people who end up having nothing, having no friends, and being nothing.

i don't know why people do it, but what i think is funny is that as little as a seventy to one hundred short years ago, it was more fashionable to be husky and buxom, because it was a sign of wealth--meaning that you ate well and a huge variety at that....sugar was an extreme luxury...
i don't make fun of people that are overweight, but i often ask myself why they are like that...is it a health problem, are they depressed?? because i used to weigh 230 lbs, and i have lost 95 of that because i WANTED TO, and made up my mind to do just that....so that's what goes through my mind; why don't they want to be healthier?

Barking is much more rude and disrespectful than laughing at or teasing someone-- fat or skinny.

Their parents did a poor job of raising them, never taught how wrong it is to tease and bully and hurt others, I guess.
