Last year Bob took $4,470 worth of health pills from over the counter and the Internet. We don't have that kind of money. He won't ask a doctor, just believes anything anyone says would be good for you. He has been diagnosied with Alheimers and mini strokes. I believe he has fried his brain on all these health pills. He lies to the doctor and only tell him about 5 or 6 pills.....calcium, vitimens, fish oil, for example, but he takes kelp, sea weed, etc., etc. He takes about 50 health pills everyday and his memory is getting worse. He won't listen to anyone. He doesn't follow any guidelines, if one is good, then 3 would be better, kind of reasoning. What kind of doctor can advise me.....we have at least 100 bottles of different health pills in our home.

make an appointment for your husband to get re-checked my his primary physician
take ALL the bottles of herbs with you
go into the room with your husband and talk to the MD about your concerns

Sounds like your husband is grasping at straws thinking the herbs might save his memory { which is very normal to do}

(no, you cant fry your brain on herbal medications)

The getting worse could be the Alzheimers or the TIA's ( mini strokes)
what he needs to take is the Prescribed med to slow the progression of the Alzheimers

He's not addicted to those pills, he either has OCD or he is a hypochondriac. If he gets prescribed an SSRI, that will alleviate his condition. It sounds like he won't fight another pill. Just make sure you don't tell him that this pill will stop his taking all the other ones, or he won't take it. The doctor and you can put it in a way that will make him want to take the SSRI. There are several different meds for this and it's a matter of trial and error to find the right one, but as his wife, you'll know when he's on the right one, because he won't want to obsess anymore.
Good luck.

He doesn't have an addiction, and an extra herbal pill or two probably wont do much harm. If he lies to his doctor, maybe you should look into a new primary care physician. A holistic doctor with knowledge of alternative herbal medicines might be an option. In the mean time, assist your husband by providing his physician with a complete list of herbal pills- they can interact negatively with perscription medications.

As anybody else will tell you as it has been well publicized that one of the main dangers of not informing the doctor of health pill is interactions.

Many of these jealth drugs and supplements contain ingredientsthat mirror or intensify the effects of the prescription ones. Or negate them such as the health pill raising blood pressure while the person is taking a pill to lower blood pressure.

Well, I this particular situation can be stopped really quick...scare him and tell him that if anyone came into the house, or called the authorities on you guys, that one of you would be put in a home, and the other in jail...and throw the junk out asap...he is a hypochondriac, and is probably making himself sick...then, he best know that this is drug abuse, and you are NOT going to let it continue...and then dump it...I have seen this before, and the scare tactic worked.
