Right you are !! Many people are ignorant and ungrateful these days and it just makes me feel that personally I would not bother much for that individual. What on earth is happening to humanity ?? Makes you wonder, as basic manners do not cost anything. Thank you very much for asking this question and .. all the best to you.

I agree. Not too long ago, my husband and I walked into a restaurant. A boy, who looked to be about 14, held the door open for me. I was surprised, as I'm not used to getting that at all anymore. (I did when I was in my early 20s, especially from men, but maybe I'm giving off a married and pregnant vibe.) My husband's younger sister is 21. I guess she's used to her mother giving her what she wants when she wants it, regardless of her attitude. In the past I have told her pointedly, when I've done something for her, even if it's "just" handing her a bottle of water, say, "You're welcome," and she scoffs at me, giving an indigant sniff, as though I had the audcacity to say anything to her. She'll get her butt kicked in the real world. While her mother (my MIL) is fairly courteous, her father, not so much. I guess one can only learn what one sees at home.
Yes, overall, I do notice that people are less courteous, not just in words, but in actions. Compared to say, the President of the Queen of England (or the Prim Minister), my manners might be rough. When I'm at home, I am more relaxed, but in public, I carry myself well and do to others as I would want them to do to me.
Just my two cents.

I agree with you all the way. I find people are less appreciative now, than ever before, but depends where you are. I live on and Island and most people say good day, thank you, please, your welcome, and so on. I think it's the younger generations that have lost the art of politiness and manners. And this is from a 14 year-old. The world is becoming more unified and yet it is becoming more rude and violent too. no balance at all

A lot people don't speak English, but yes it does bother me when they don't say thank you. It also bothers me that they don't say excuse me. Manners are terrible in America except in the southern portion. People tend to be much more polite in the southern states than the northern states. Unfortunately, some people feel that you owe them something and they owe you nothing. Code name: a_ _ holes.

When I work at a country store I find that sometimes - I have found that their in a hurry and find no excuse for not saying "Please and Thank You " Yes it bugs me so I just consider the source and make sure I won't let them ruin my day

Though i agree that people should say thank you (i had a group of people ignore me completely yesterday after i held the door for all of them) it comes down to another question why do you help them, out of the kindness of your heart or for the reward of gratitude?

It bugs me a lot. If I'm in a snarky mood, I'll say sarcastically "oh you are VERY welcome" and look at them pointedly and I'll usually get a "thank you" then.
Heck people can't even say "excuse me" or "pardon me", like in a theater and they are going into your aisle and want to get around you. This one teenager never said "excuse me" and I got pissed and said "excuse me" loud. Ignored me.
People are so rude these days.

Yes it does, but not much. I'm also seeing people who are less appreciative.

Yes, very much. We are always nagging our kids to be very polite. In fact, we were on a plane on Sunday and my kids were very polite to the stewardess and she even commented to the pilot on our way off the plane how polite my kids are. I was very proud of them, but then I thought most kids must not be polite for her to have noticed.
