Any doctor or trainer will tell you that the most effective way to tone your mid-section is to combine exercise with a controlled diet.
If you think about your present size and shape, you know that you didn't get that size in one day. So practically speaking, we can't expect to get fit in one day either.
Now that we are in the right mindset, we can monitor ourselves of small differences that will make big changes in our life. If you are used to adding salt or sugar to your food, cut back a little at a time. If drink soda, kool-aid, sweetened drinks.etc consider replacing them with iced tea and more water, about 6 to 8 glasses per day.
If you cut down a little on the carbs, such as pizza, pasta, rice, baked goods, candy and enriched flour breads, you will have an easier time to burn off the calories that you do consume.
Finally, your stomach cannot necessarily be "spot" reduced, but you will see a positive difference in your entire body with a regular aerobic routine. That means walking, running, swimming or exercise class. This will burn the calories that you don't need and give you a lift of confidence.
Best of luck!

We cannot spot reduce so you have to lose fat from your whole body. Here is how to do it:
Eat 6 small but balanced meals per day. Your carbs should be high in fiber, your proteins should be lean, and your fats should be sparing but high in the omega 3 & 6 fatty acids. Avoid greasy foods, alcohol, and candy.
Lift weights or perform power yoga. These are resistance exercises which will increase your lean mass and burn extra calories 24 hours per day. Also, some cardio helps.
Use a measuring tape instead of a scale to measure your progress because the measuring tape is more accurate.
