alcoholism is an illness, and the alcoholic must have a will to quit themselves. sometimes families and friends can do an intervention, in order to get the person help, in rehabilitation or into the hospital for treatment.

i'm sorry you're exposed to this... it's not a pretty thing to watch.

alcoholism can ruin your life and relationships (of course, i'm sure you've experienced this already). it can be fatal.

i have attached a website which gives good information on alcholism.

you can also look up Alcoholics Anonymous on your search engine. they have resources for help, and also sponser a chat.

Alanon is another group which might be helpful. It has been designed for the person or persons who live with an alcoholic. You can find AA and Alanon meetings in most communities... just check the AA website or look in the phone book for more information.

take care of you, hon. and i hope things work out. sending hugz your way.

There is nothing that anyone - anyone at all can do - it has to come from them - only they can decide - and you can only pray that they do not leave it too late. You have to be harsh to be kind - stop giving in - cut them out of your life - maybe then they will understand in their more lucid moments that they are alienating their loved ones. It's hard - it really is - but only they can realise themselves. Then AA is the answer they are marvellous wonderful people.

wow. i'm really sorry to hear that. alcoholism can be deadly. they will obviously lose weight due to not eating but worse is the effect alcohol has on the liver and the brain. if you cannot talk to him/her i suggest you attend an alanon meeting. they are a group for the families of alcoholics. they will have much more info. best of luck.

If this family member does not get help he or she's liver will be damaged badly.Sounds like intervention time.

they get worse and slowly they wil die young probably with liver disease. i had several aunts and uncles that died in 40's because of that. they can get abusive and the kids they can also sexually abuse them. its bad and you can help by trying to get them to do something but i think they won't. leave if you can and get the otehrs to go with you and help them all.
