Call your ISP to get the proper server name for your POP or IMAP server.

They will know what the two terms mean.

The link below should be able to provide the information you are seeking.

Also, if you can receive e-mails, but not send them, then maybe the e-mail service you are currently using does not allow out going e-mails through their servers.
It would help if you stated what kind e-mail service you are using. Some Web based e-mail providers (Hotmail, Yahoo!) charge a fee for the use of sending e-mail through an e-mail client (Outlook Express).
It could also be that you do not have smtp (simple mail transfer protocol) set up correctly within your e-mail client. Please provide more information.

I use an e-mail service that allows me to receive and send e-mails through its servers. It is called HotPop and I have been using it for years. They do send you some advertisements, but that is a small price to pay for a free service that actually works. Further more, you can always install a SPAM blocker to redirect unwanted messages to a SPAM folder where they rightfully belong.

Here is the link if you are interested in checking it out.

The sign up process is kind of lengthy, but you are not forced to sign up for any service you do not wish to receive.

:-)
