No, more like Fire Insurance salesmen, and just as annoying.

Good Morning Brendan!

I have never heard clergy even reference Pascal's Wager. The wager is not a way (and was never intended to be a way) to cause people to believe. It does bring up the issue as to the worth of God and the value in seeking Him.

Even if you take into the fact account that Pascal's wager is flawed, clergymen have the sub-conscious of a used car salesman by nature anyways.

Interesting analogy, but I hope that *most* clergy offer their religious education services to people for the sake of bringing them together for the common good, and not to sell them anything.

If you've ever felt good about dropping a quarter in a donation jar, then you probably understand why most clergy sacrifice worldly pleasure for a life which they believe to be dedicated to bringing people to God.

Peace...

Thanks, I finally looked it up ... the Pascal's wager that everyone here seems to know.

(I once proposed a similar wager to my husband who believes that when we die - we die. I, on the other hand, hope that the adventure may continue.
I bet him that there is such a thing as life after life. If there is, I will be right AND be able to rub his nose into it. But if he happens to be right, he will not know it and has no chance to do his victory dance. Sweet, isn't it?)

Great analogy! Here in Texas many of them are cleaning up.

By the way Brother D, I am not living for a prize at the end. I am living my life for today.

Atheism is a terrible bet. It gives you no chance of winning the prize.

I don't view it as being valid.

God wants only the best, if you don't qualify, too bad. It's your loss, not God's.

God will NOT be pleased with conversion of a bunch of phony people. God wants genuine beleivers. If that ain't you, so be it!

Yeah, something like that, except some of them rape boys and grow weed in the church yard.
