If it is a high definition TV it is probably that you are watching a regular TV program in the wide screen mode.

This is called the aspect ratio.

Regular TV is 4 units wide by 3 units high (4x3) High definition TV or wide screen is 16 units wide by 9 units high (16x9). Therefore if you watch regular TV in the wide screen mode the picture will be stretched, or if you watch a wide screen broadcast in the regular mode it will be compressed.

There is a mode button on the remote that will allow you to adjust the picture to the correct aspect ratio the program is broadcast in.

Note: TV is going through a transition from analog to digital. In the future ALL TV will use 16x9 for new productions but just think of how many programs have been produced using the correct system. So the problem will be around for a very long time.

your tv is probably widescreen, regular tv signals still come as 4 * 3 instead of widescreen. Your tv is stretching the signal like it's designed to to compensate. If you want widescreen signals, you'll have to subscribe to HDTV
