My little brother believes that there were only two in the beginning when the earth was created.

God spoke and His Spirit moved. I thought that when He said let us make man in our own image, it meant "us" the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

He believes there was no trinity until after the death of Christ. Anyone have any scriptures to point me to?

Apostle Paul (Colossians 1:15-16) says, speaking of Jesus, "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible ..."
So, Jesus was - as a heavenly spirit, by God's side. It was ti him, God spoke.
The word "Trinity" as such does not appear in the Bible.
"The doctrine of the Trinity is the result of continuous exploration by the church of the biblical data, thrashed out in debate and treatises, eventually formulated at the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD in a way they believe is consistent with the biblical witness, and further refined in later councils and writings." Since the trinity is a devine concept then sometimes it hard for the human mind to concieve it, But the bible does offer insights as to who was there in the beginning. if you read all the verse. Y ou will discover that there where always three entities. Father, Son and Holy spirit.

-John 1v1-2 it clearly says that the word was with God from the very beginning. That word was Jesus, 1 john v 1
- In Genesis 1: 1 it says that the Spirt was there. That was before the creation of the earth.

That makes three

The Father was not made, nor created, nor generated by anyone. The Son is not made, nor created, but begotten by the Father alone. The Holy Spirit is not made, nor created, nor generated, but proceeds from the Father and the Son. There is, then, one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three sons; one Holy Spirit, not three holy spirits. In this Trinity, there is nothing before or after, nothing greater or less. The entire three Persons are coeternal and coequal with one another. So that in all things, as is has been said above, the Unity is to be worshiped in Trinity and the Trinity in Unity.

Did Christ exist before coming to this world?.......Christ says of Himself, "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last." Revelation 22:13. Another title is "THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS' (Jeremiah 23:5,6). The Hebrew Yahweh(Jehovah), "the self-existent One" is here applied to the Messiah. The text shows both his power and divine nature. (Note: Christ declares Himself to be the A and the Z. In the Greek alphabet the fist letter is Alpha and the last letter is Omega. That He did exist in the beginning is a fact stated in Genesis 1:1. The first words of John's gospel reveal that God the Son is coeternal with God the Father. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." John 1:1-3. That Word which took part in the creation of the world was Jesus (John 1:14).

Hi, your little Brother is wrong but a lot of older people make this wrong assumption as well, in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God, Jesus is the Word of God, when the Bible says let us make man in our image this should be taken to mean that the Father and the Son were speaking and it was in the love of the Holy Spirit that this was carried out.

IWhen God created man and woman there are only two of them, God, the Father, and the Son.

Joh 1:32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
Joh 1:33 And knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost

There is no trinity as the catholics believe it to be but there is Holy Spirit that dwells with God when Jesus became man to save us. Please read the verse stated above for your reference.

See John 14:10 where Jesus says the Father is in me and I am in the Father. Also John 17:22.

Really though, one will not be able to "prove" the doctrine of the trinity in the scriptures. The theological understanding and definition of the trinity did come later, but it is clear that there is the belief that Jesus is God in the Bible.

Check out revelation. You will see not only Jesus saying I am Alpha and Omega, but also chapter 4 and 5. At first the heavenly court worships God:

"Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to the one who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before the one who sits on the throne and worship him, who lives forever and ever. They throw down their crowns before the throne, exclaiming: 'Worthy are you, Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things; because of your will they came to be and were created.'" (4:9-11)

Then the worship the lamb (which can't be anyone but Jesus):

"Then I saw standing in the midst of the throne and the four living creatures and the elders, a Lamb that seemed to have been slain. He had seven horns and seven eyes; these are the (seven) spirits of God sent out into the whole world. He came and received the scroll from the right hand of the one who sat on the throne. When he took it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each of the elders held a harp and gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of the holy ones. They sang a new hymn: 'Worthy are you to receive the scroll and to break open its seals, for you were slain and with your blood you purchased for God those from every tribe and tongue, people and nation. You made them a kingdom and priests for our God, and they will reign on earth.' I looked again and heard the voices of many angels who surrounded the throne and the living creatures and the elders. They were countless in number, and they cried out in a loud voice: 'Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches, wisdom and strength, honor and glory and blessing.'" (5:6-12).

They fall down before both God and the Lamb and give the same praise to the Lamb as to God. And just in case it is not clear, God and the Lamb are worshiped together:

"Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, everything in the universe, cry out: 'To the one who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor, glory and might, forever and ever.' The four living creatures answered, 'Amen,' and the elders fell down and worshiped." (5:13-14).

This might not be "before the death of Christ," as Revelation is supposed to take place after Jesus has ascended, but at least it shows that in the New Testament there is the faith that Jesus is God. And if He is God, then He is God from eternity (alpha and omega) not just after a certain point in time.

Show him the Gospel of John 1:1 were John says, "In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with God, and the WORD WAS GOD." Later John says, "And the WORD became flesh and dwelt among us."

Before the 2nd Divine Person of the Holy Trinity became Jesus, He was the "Word of God". You see this in the passage you quoted. "God"... "Spoke" (this is God's Word....THE WORD)....and the moving Holy Spirit.

I think there was no trinity untill christ was born. the Father refers to God him self, the son is the Masia or messanger, and the holy spirty is the means by which god sends his messages through the son. kinda like a tv. the actor records the message and then sends it to the tv....
