Common problem: you dont have the right codec to play the video. For this proble download the right codec to play the movie. You can use KLite Mega Codec Pack ( http://www.codecs.com/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack_download.htm ). When you install this you almost can play any multimedia file in this world
Other possibilities: You dont have soundcard installed. MP will not play anything till you have soundcard installed or the driver instaled.
Other possibilities : Both of the above problem
Other possibilities : Your MP installation corrupt

If the video file format isn't compatible with WMP, or Quicktime or Real player, read the FAQ's on the video web site.
If others don't have the same problem, your PC may be infested.

you either need to download a plugin or a video codex . to really know i would need a lot more details hope this helps or ask the question again with more details ( like what messages pot up when you try to play the file)hope this helps

Codec for that video must be missing in wmp.
