As the name implies, a concept test is meant to gain reaction (and sometimes feedback/input) to a concept. Most often, concept tests are used to test out new product ideas. In those, you can either just write a simple paragraph that describes the idea and benefit of a product (e.g. It's a new soft drink made from fruit juice but tastes like a cola), and/or there could be a picture of the new product.

Also, a concept test, could test out an advertising idea. Then, it might describe what the benefit of the product is.

In all cases, a concept test is quantitative (usually tested among 300 consumers or more). You then get results on purchase intent, and you are able to compare your results vs. norms to understand if your concept is average, above average or poor. In some concept test, you can also get volume estimates. You can usually segment the data to understand which types of consumers like your product better so you know who to target.
