I'm not an old person, I am 25.. my parents done it, my grandparents done it.. and to be truthful I've let my girl get a sip. You know the old tales.. it flushes out their kidneys...
I can just tell you that in this day and age all the "educational" answers are pretty much garbage. They might have some medical truths to them but with all this fine education look how today's youth still turn out.
Decide for yourself if you are ok with it. Despite all the doctors terms and reasons, ask yourself this, how many people have you known it to hurt? How many people have you know it NOT to hurt? I think pretty much all of our elders done it.
I got a teaspoon of moonshine many many times when I was sick and in no time I was just fine. I remember once all my friends were so sick, we had missed school for days and a couple of them had to go have shots and take horrible medicine and I got the teaspoon of shine every so many hours and it cleared up my breathing, made me feel better and I never even got a fever. I was back to school several days before they were.
Raise your kids how you see fit!

Technically speaking, neither would be good for an infant. (For the record, I'm just going to consider an 18-month-old to be an infant, as 'toddler' is usually used for 2 years and up.) Babies have very small livers compared to adults, and their bodies are not made to metabolize alcohol at such a young age. Just 2 or 3 ounces can make a child pass out and possibly need medical care. As for carbonated drinks, there's no reason to fill up a child's bloodstream with empty calories and sugar. It has virtually no nutritional value, so there's really no benefits from giving an infant 'just a sip' of something like this. Now, to answer your question, if a 'sip' is really around the amount of liquid in a few drops, beer would probably have less of an effect on the child, but it's still not a good idea to act upon either, considering the above. Of course, it shouldn't be too big of a deal, unless this becomes a habit.

Well my dear all those old tales are true!! Alcohol will slow the ability to learn. And is known to damage the nervous system. They teach you that in prenatal class. For the people that say it won't hurt him are probably beer drinkers. This wouldn't be something I would announce all over the internet either.

People get "buzzed" from drinking alcohol because their brain cells are dying...a three-year-old's brain is still growing--why kill it off before it's even finished? Kids need to devote their energy to learning how to become functional adults, not sitting around getting wasted. I doubt that it's really good for his growth and development, and I would worry about him becoming an alcoholic (especially if dad already is enough of one to think that giving beer to his kid is a good idea!).

I dont think anyone has any idea what their talking about.
Beer in small amounts like this cant possibly do anything.
Besides, if there was a study saying it was bad, theres another saying its good. Someone will dig up proof einstein started drinking beer at birth. Which could be possible considering his country of origin

I'm sorry, but if no one else is going to say it, then I will....
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING??? Giving your CHILD alcohol?? I came from an extremely abusive home of a alcoholic, and HELLO, can we say, "Setting your child up to be an alcoholic, MUCH??"
Not to mention, how did you come to giving it him?? What were you sitting around the campfire one day and said, "Hey, lets give our 3 yr old toddler some brew, no harm there"....I mean come on, BE A PARENT FOR GODS SAKE.

Its not something that should be encouraged. If its happening like once in a blue moon then it won't do any harm but its not exactly an ideal drink for him is it?
Tell pop to stop drinking around your son and start playing with him!

Well I wouldn't want him getting used to the taste regardless...But alchohal isn't particularly healthy for adults so of course it isn't healthy for children. Just don't let him take sips. If he whines or throws a fit ignore it. He should be sipping his dad's beer.

Let's ignore the fact that it's wrong. Let's ignore the fact of the harmful effects. I work in children services. If anyone gets wind of this, CPS WILL become invovled. I've seen children removed from the home for less.

Beer contains many nutrients which are useful to a baby. With time, however, your baby will want to move on to other drinks with other health-giving effects such as red wine. Even whisky has been shown to reduce the likelihood of strokes, so I would gradually start weening your baby to spirits where the health benefits are greatest.
