Whereas eternal damnation is an act of people's own choosing,
Eternal Salvation is only possible as an act of God (not as an act of religion).
The person who is saved--
1. Knows who the true (Biblical) God is.
2. Prior to salvation, Acknowledges that he or she has chosen to be damned (has sin),
and needs salvation offered by the true God.
3. Asks for salvation - and Knows the true God only has saved him or her (atonement by Jesus).
4. Makes a substantial effort to change in response to being saved. The saved person is no longer the same--but changed and desires to do what is of God--even though it is a struggle because his or her body/mind is still sinful.
5. Has the Holy Spirit dwelling inside. You can't see or feel Him, but He is there guiding spiritually and opens the things of God to people.
I hope this explanation helps you and/or other readers.

Saved from some bad outcome?
Or are you looking for an awesome and powerful experience in this lifetime? That's what many people really mean when they ask this question.
How's your vision of life? Are you a physicalist who only can see with your 5 senses? Or do you believe that you are more than a body?
You must think about the above questions. When you have a firm answer, you can then attract what you are looking for.
Be true to yourself.

First things first so the first thing you want to do is getting to know God and his son Jesus which is possible through the only book which claims divine inspiration, the Bible. John 17:3; 2 Timothy 3:16; Titus 1:2.
As you learn what things really are good, true, righteous and pleasing to the eyes of God, the more you apply these in your life, the closer you get to God, the closer he draws close to you and all who endure 'till the end and call on His name will be saved. James 4:8 and Matthew 10:22.

if you Triumph over death.
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
I Corinthians 15:52-54
King James Version
Because there a second death
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Revelation 20:14

Salvation can only be found in the Holy Catholic church since it is the only church founded by Christ in the year 33, founded by Him on the Rock of Peter (the Papacy). The first Pope was St.Peter and his successor today is Pope Benedict XVl. All other 'christian' churches have a man as their founder and not Christ Himself and thus do not offer salvation.
A Catholic must strive to keep away from mortal sin and even venial sin, avail of the Sacraments of the church, regular confession, daily prayer(daily Rosary) live a life pleasing in God's eyes and pray that God may have mercy on his soul.

You ask Jesus Christ to be your savior, since he is the one that paid the price on the cross, it is him that you need to turn to and ask for forgiveness. When you have the desire to be forgiven and Saved, you must turn to Christ , because he is the only one that was pulled into hell illegally. Hell is for people that sinned and since Christ never sinned and Satan was so anxious to get the Son of God into hell he overlooked the law that said only sinners go into hell, and it is through this mistake that the old Covenent was broken, and we all have the opportunity to enter into heaven, if we choose to have Jesus Christ as our Savior, since he is the one that paid the price in hell. So through faith, confession of our sins, and asking Jesus to be our Savior everyone on earth can obtain eternal life in heaven. But it is when we deny Christ, refuse to have faith and don't have any one to pay the price for our sins, then we must. That is why so many people go to hell. They refuse to find salvation through the only one that can offer salvation. So if you have faith in Jesus Christ, You will take all of the steps to salvation and you will know that you are saved.

Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
