At times, a question such as this will elicit dozens and dozens of elaborate schemes to spare a householder an unwanted conversation with Jehovah's Witness door-to-door ministers.
All such schemes are a complete and utter waste of time!
Many of your neighbors have figured it out, and it's really quite simple:
1. Open the door
2. Smile (optional)
3. Ask "Jehovah's Witness?"
4. Receive affirmation
5. Say, "Thank you, but I'm not interested"
6. Gently close the door (slamming is rude, but your prerogative)
Please recognize that Jehovah's Witnesses are not primarily interested in converts, but in working to obey Jesus' command to preach (Matt 24:14; Matt 28:19,20).

I tell them I will pray with them if first they pray with me. Then as they are leaving having not taken me up on my suggestion. I tell them have a Merry Christmas or a Happy Easter or Happy Flag Day. It seems that they are always around at the Holidays. Of which I do not know which ones they believe in. I know they do not respect flags. They do not believe in celebrating Christmas or birthdays. It is OK to drink if you say it is for a cold. I can honestly say that after this I have seen them walk past my house without stopping. Why I do not listen to them. I have a problem with any religion that uses kids. Would let a baby die because it and it's mother are different RH factors refuse to let it be transfused. I could understand not wanting just any ones blood but they are not allowed any not even their own mom or dad's..

It all depends what I am doing when they show up, I have listened some times but only until they avoid a question, then I ask them to leave. Most of the time, I just send them away immediately.

My husband does. I don't. He's much more tolerant, and I think that he gets a kick out of sharing his own views with them, since he loves talking about such things, although he'd never be swayed by their doctrines. There are some things that either of us find unacceptable.
However, in our younger days, we had two different stories: He heard positive things of them, for they were ready to help someone he knew who was in need of food and shelter. JW's helped with lightning speed.
The story I heard was the opposite: these people were unwelcome in a friend's house, and until she pulled a knife out of a drawer and was screeching at them to leave, they kept trying to save her, even though she was only 14 and her parents were not home. They barged in, putting their foot in the door so that she could not close it on them.
So, you see, my husband allows them. I, however, do not. They keep you on the porch for 1/2 an hour at 30 below zero. I'd rather not talk to them. It is my opinion that this is what is called a "pythonic" spirit. I think it is a form of evil and goes against Christ's teachings.

Do I listen? Yes. Do I understand? No.
When they have come I invited them into my home...which apparently they like, maybe because it's cold outside or they may think it a 'coup'. Either way they come in. I listen because I find them so damn sincere in their beliefs. And frankly alot of them are former Catholics...why...I don't know, primarily because the Church has failed in educating a whole generation perhaps on their Faith? But alas, in the end it is the Catholic himself that is responsible.....
These people are so misguided and misinformed but as an act of true Christian charity offering kindness is the best option, slamming doors in their face does nothing for them (or us). It is a sort of persecution, and they love that, thrive on it. How about killing them with kindness?

I do once in a while, just for the laughs. Just like when Baptists, Pentecostals, Catholics, Scientologists, Methodists, Jews, Ufologists, Mormons, or any other religious group tries to convert me.

No. They are annoying and invasive. It is rude and disrespectful for them to lecture and spread there beliefs to people whom are not interested. Pretty much the people they approach are more than secure enough in their own spiritual beliefs to decide what to believe rather than being badgered and lectured by them like they are mindless nincumpoops who are spiritually lost. Absolutely disrespectful that they go as far as disturbing people in the privacy of their home.

No, I try to leave people alone when they are "getting the job done" if you know what I mean. It would just be rude. What they do in their spare time is their business.
