Jesus died fighting a religious-based government. He died because he challenged the Pharisees strict obedience to the Old Testaments which ironically was from God or so they say.

Once they have the government, like they now have the President, they believe everyone will roll over for them. Actually what will happen is another civil war where non-Christians will be protecting the Constitution, and the United States. while Christians will be trying to bring about religious serfdom, ala the Taliban in Afghan, with there religous police to make sure you toe their line.

Nice handle, by the way.
I can only offer a theory here, but I would say it having alot to do with the fact that most 'religious' christians think they are the only ones to have worked out the 'right' spiritual path, so they think that in turn gives them the right to force that spiritual path upon others.
In my opinion, and I'm probably up for abuse for this but, it boils down to arrogance and intolerance.
Also, my Grandmother had a great saying about the church and Jesus: The church killed Jesus the first time round, and if he came back today, it'd be the church that'd kill him again! Although I reckon the US government might get involved like the Romans did.

Jesus died to forgive sin. He didn't die to quell a holy war. Read the accounts of Jesus death and you will see this to be the case. In Old Testament times, sacrafices were to be offered as an atonement, sorrow, for sins committed. The sacrifices were to be blood sacrifices, the shedding of the blood of a persons best animals showed the seriousness, and sorrow was real and from the heart of the person. They weren't just giving up any old thing, or an animal that was about ready to die anyway. They gave up the best they had. At that time, this is what made atonement for sins committed. Since the advent of Jesus He, Himself made the blood sacrifice (bloody torture and death on the cross) for us, on our behalf. It didn't take animal sacrifice anymore. Jesus did it. Jesus, as true God and true man, was/is the only one able to do such a thing. It now takes faith in Jesus and what He did to forgive, and to take away sins. Jesus did it once and it is good for all people of all time. The religious leaders at that time, had a hard time accepting such a thing. If a person could make his own sacrifice for forgivness, i wouldt mean that his actions could stand to be his own way of salvation. But, that is no longer the case. Jusus is the only way of salvation. All we have to do is have faith in Him, honor Him, and live like we mean it. It's no longer our sacrifice, it's Jesus sacrifice for us.. It's no longer our sacrifice of our things, it's Jesus sacrifice of His life for us that sins are forgiven. Kind of like this: It used to be a law that women couldn't vote. That law was changed and women can vote. It oued to be law that animals had to be sacrificed, but that isn't the law anymore.God, via Jesus, changed it on our behalf.

jesus did not find his followers in the temples, those guys were already convinced in their beliefs, and not following the laws therein. jesus was a friend to sinners and common people, they were the only ones who wanted to learn something. maybe a christ-based govt, but not a christian government

They want it to become what this government came to oppose. You know its clearly simple why the founding fathers declared independence. To stay away from a dictator and a theocracy.

This goes to jmminnc:

You know... you mention freedom, yet you worship a God. Here is the answer to your blind ignorance and who really found this land. Native Americans. Genocide and the forced fed christianization of Native Americans.... you know I dont even want to talk about this. You really piss me off. Just take you freedom and shove it up your ***. Freedom

It was the Christians that founded this land of the free. The problem today is many have come here over the years and have forgotten how it was set up. The christian men that made the US great set laws in place so we all could live together with understanding that we do not step on each others rights.
