I am attending Community College in Austin, Texas, and trying to transfer to the University of Texas. I am looking for scholarships that I may qualify for. I have a 4.0 with 30 credit hours in difficult core classes. I have an 570 on the SAT verbal and 580 on the SAT math. I volunteer at a middle school tutoring students with over 30 hours for this school year. I am a gold member, with over 15 hours, in Phi Theta Kappa, so I am very involved. I am also a member of MENSA. I have checked with UT and I am not eligible for any of them. Also, I have checked fast web and college board and have applied for any that looked good, but have not recieved anything back. Does anyone have any other suggestions for how I might go about trying to get scholarships based on academics and extracurriculars to help me with the tuition at UT? Thank you in advance.

I recommend checking with the trransfer department at the University of Texas because they might be able to help, too. You might want to search for outside scholarships.Outside scholarships can fill in the gaps that FAFSA did not touch in tuition help. However, if you can't find the additional funds, you might want to wait one more year before transfering to save money on the student loans. I will list free some places that can help you find money to attend the University of Texas.

First, the college's financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major's website will list scholarships, too.

Second, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Third, fill out the FAFSA form if you have not done so yet. Your financial aid package will adjust from the community college amount you have been receiving to the new tuition at the University of Texas.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites, but the best I have located is Scholarship Experts since they have a very thorough and lengthy survey to complete compared to Fastweb. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

Good luck!

I suggest completing graduating from the community college and then transfering to the UT. When you graduate from a 2 year school and still have a 4.0, then you will have an option of a number of scholarships that they offer. Anyway, you should have applied early at UT in before you went to a 2 year school. You have gotten a full ride; provide the information you given is correct.

Congratulations on your academic achievements!!
I will suggest that you visit your financial aid department at your community college.
But, if you're planning on using the scholarship money for your education at UT, visit first your school transfer department. They will have more information regarding the school where you're transferring to and might help you fill out some scholarship papers as well.

I went to Community College of Philadelphia, then later transferred to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida. The Career center at CCP helped me fill out some scholarship papers as well.

PS: You may not get a lot of help for your first year at UT as far as scholarship goes because you're transferring from another school. Nevertheless, if you maintain that same education excellence (good grades) on your first year, definitely you will receive a lot of scholarships later. You're on the right track!

You should apply the Harvard Extension School in Boston, MA. There are plenty of scholarships available through the staff there.
