First. The first miracle performed by Jusus was the converting of the water into wine at the wedding party in Cana, and only after His mother asked Him to "DO" something.
Biblically, Jesus Christ did not perform any miracles or works of wonder UNTIL after He was Baptised by John the Baptist in the River Jordan.
As a child, everyone knows that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, then His father Joseph was commanded that he take the child to egypt till after the death of Herod. Upon His return from Egypt with His mother and father, they probably lived and worked in the village of Nazereth near the Galilee.
At the age of 12, Jesus was in Jerusalem with His parents for a festival. His parents left Jerusalem and assumed that their son was trailing behind them. But after some time later, the parents could not locate the boy and returned to Jerusalem, where they found Him in the Temple speaking words of wisdom with the Pharisees and other elders. The Priests were in awe and wonder as He spoke so wisely.
But during this time, no miracles or works of wonders were performed, BECAUSE HE COULDN'T, ----YET. Only after He was Baptised by John and the Holy Spirit decended upon him as(or like) a white dove was he able to "go about The Father's Work"
The best resources for this information is contained in the Books of Mathew, Mark, Luke, John and into the book of Acts. For easier understanding try finding a bible called the American Standard Version or the NIV or The Good News Bible.
Good Question, I hope this helps you understand a little bit more about our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

The first "official" miracle was the wine deal at the wedding in Caanan. There is no prior mention of any other miracles, but Jesus was known to be very smart as a kid. He was amazing the religious leaders at age 12.
Jesus lived in Egypt in his early years, until King Herod died. Herod was so afraid of Jesus that he had all the kids under 2 years old killed, hoping that he got that darned Messiah in the bunch. Angels, however, gave Joseph a heads up on the deal, and suggested that he take his family to Egypt until it was safe.
From there the family moved back to Nazareth/Galilee, and evidently Jesus spend his teens and early adulthood working with Joseph, his Earthly Father-Figure, as a carpenter. The Bible does not go into specifics of Jesus' early life. Probably because it is not important to do so. It was his last few years that really made the difference.
There are places in the Bible where Jesus is referred to as either a carpenter or a carpenter's son. It was custom in those days that sons followed the career paths of their fathers or other close relatives.

Jesus did not start "performing miracles" as you say, to amuse people or to show off his power. He had no need to perform miracles in his childhood years. In fact, I do not consider "performing" as the right word. It sounds too close to performing a stunt in front of a crowd or television. Also, if you read the Bible (preferably the most accurate word-to-word transation from original) you would find in one passage about the time of the first and the first known miracle of turning water into wineJesus showed. It was a little time before he revieled himself to people, Jesus said that his hour has not yet come ( to reveal himself to the world).

The first miracle in the New Testament (KJV and new) is the water to wine. But according to some Apocrypha, surviving childhood might be it. One of the left out Gospels states that Jesus was a pain in the neck, spoiled child who beat up on his half siblings (either Joesph's first wife or Mary and Joesph's children) nearly killing one for breaking a toy. He is supposed to have spent time in Egypt and most of His time in Cainna and Galilee

weird coincidence (or divine intervention?) i just saw today on National Geographic channel about the lost Gospel of Thomas which talks about Jesus as a child. He was caught sculpting clay doves by Joseph on the Sabbath and when Daddy yelled at him, he turned them into real doves. This i think is the first miracle he performs. But maybe it's BS, i mean it isn't in the real Bible. Which means it can't be true right?
Wow way to not think outside the box everyone else. This has best answer written all over it!

I heard the one about the doves as well. Another I heard was that as they came into Egypt when they were fleeing Herod, the High Priest of Anubis came out of the temple and yelled to everyone: "Behold, the One True God!" and all the statues in his temple fell over. "The oracle in Delphi fell silent" as the scripture says. Don't know if this qualifies as a miracle. Could have been an earthquake or something.
