If you were compatible in every other way except in spritual beliefs. I do mean every way, including morals. What I'm getting at is, would you not date a person who is an atheist, but would not hesitate to date, if they shared your beliefs?

And if any atheists answer this question, I do not have a problem dating a theist and if atheism is the truth then dating a theist should not affect my beliefs. I can entertain beliefs that I do not personally hold.

I dated an atheist when I was 16-17 and I am Catholic. My parents liked him. Real nice guy, perfect gentleman. We had lots of laughs, good talks about religion and faith, politics, nature. We never fought about anything and we respected each other greatly. (He was the best kisser I've ever had also). I messed up the relationship by becoming interested in someone else. I still kick myself for messing that up. Nicest guy I've ever known.

I would consider dating an atheist again but he would have to have complete respect for my faith because I go to mass on Sundays and I am raising my son in the Catholic faith as well as teaching him world religions so he is aware of what is out there. I will not stop being a Catholic and I will not end a relationship just because he will not convert to Catholicism but he would have to live with my crosses on the wall and my Bible in my purse and my prayers at mealtimes and such. God is the main man in my life.

Personally, I wouldn't date or marry a theist. There is too much potential for conflict. I have seen many people get upset and hurt because a spouse wouldn't attend church with them or disagreed with what to do at christmas or easter. My own mother is a perfect example: a devout christian who married a non-christian and regretted it for 16 years before he finally left for good. Religion is a very powerful, potentially divisive idea that can come between two people very quickly.

See, if they shared my morals, then they would be sharing my religion as well...I don't just view religion as where I park my bum on Sundays. It's a complete way of life.

Having said that...
I have some friends who are atheists. They are a lot of fun, and one of them says all the time...Thank God I'm an atheist! He just does that to bug me! :) We have talked somewhat about our beliefs...or lack thereof...and were really unable to come to any common ground. (I had better luck with a Wicca!) So mostly we talk about hockey, education, politics (!!!) our kids...like that.

I did date outside my religion and found it to be a dismal failure.

No, and it would be absolutely impossible for us to be "compatible" in every way since Christianity is an aspect in every single piece of my life.

I do not allow a person in my home that doesn't believe in God in some way
people who are not of God are not in my home and are being lead by the devil usually.
