You'll do fine. They are both Latin based languages & actually Spanish is easier than French. (Fewer irregularities) Great idea for an MD in CA!

Hi there !

I'm French and learned English in school, which I can speak more or less fluently (well, I work in English all day long, without any problem !)

Frankly, Spanish will be easy for you, if you already master French. It's really close.

The hardest part for me was to be able to understand Spanish people, as they speak very very quickly !

Reading is by far the easiest part.

What I did also is rent many Spanish movies (or US movies, but with Spanish audio). And I spent 3 weeks in Andalucia, which is a fantastic place to visit.. I urge you to do so !!!

Hope this helps ;-)

I speak three latin languages so I can tell you that French grammar is more difficult than Spanish and just about as difficult as Italian.

French has more irregular than regular verbs!

Spanish should be a breeze for you.

One thing is puzzling me. I understand your reasons for wanting to study Spanish but why are you majoring in it? Wouldn't it be better to minor in Spanish and to major in another more "doctorish" subject such as Science?

oh it'll be very easy for you! spanish was easier for me to learn then english. I speak portugese as a first language. If you ever want to learn another romance language portugese will be good because pronoucation in portugese is closer to french and italian then spanish but in writing and actually translation it is closer to spanish. I live in L.A learning Spanish is a great investment of time and money espically if your working here.

I don't think it would be that hard.. If you want to be a doctor then why did you major in French.. Colleges recommend majoring in a science and minoring in a language.
Good luck!! :)
