find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats, take 300-400 calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
5-8servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water a day
5-6 small meals instead of 3 big ones (breakfast is the most important - make sure to get complex carbs like whole wheat bread, oatmeal, fruit etc)
4-6 times a week cardio for 30-50min, light weight training, many reps
no junk food, no sodas, no alcohol, no white flour (cakes, cookies, white bread, pasta etc.), nothing high in sugar (ice cream)

it's never to late to loose weight, but also loose it more for your health and not just only to look good. depending on how tall you are, your bone mass and such determine first where do you want to be, and be realistic and reasonable. do not go drastic and fast or you'll end up packing the pounds back on. determine a reasonable calorie intake and fat intake totals for the day and try to control it, but be wise, every now and then a small treat is better than punishing yourself by eating a ton (like me, ;) ) and continue to work out but add walking everyday 10,000 steps a day, eventually when you start dropping a little more it will get easier to workout more. Up your reps and do your excercise to exhaustion of your muscles, but again take it slow, and always warm up. It's also helpful to find a partner or friend to go workout with you or a support group or friend to email you back and forth throughout your process. Your excercise and eating habits have to be an everyday thing, also there is no spot reduction excercise so do a variety, and weights are always good. But you must understand "all great things take time" and "practice makes perfect" and make sure to educate yourself on what you eat. If you need a support friend I'd be happy to help, I'm dealing with the same issues. Good Luck!

If you want to lose weight, its really not that terribly hard. There are a few key things you have to do.
1) Find the willpower to not do bad. Thats something you kind of have to find yourself, noone can really help you.
2) Replace bad habits with Good (IE: Eating a case of twinkies) Instead of sitting down and eating a bag of doritos, get some diet popcorn. A Bag is only 100-200 calories, where as a bag of doritos is thousands. Imitation crab meat, potatoes, chicken breasts. There are a lot of things you can eat that are filling and not high in calories.
3) Figure out how many calories you need to maintain your weight.. Go online and find a caloric needs calculator. It asks for your age, height, weight, and how active you are. Then it tells you how many calories you need to maintain your weight. For instance, A 270 pound, 5'11 man, age 25, needs almost 4000 calories to maintain his weight. If he eats 2000 he loses 2000 calories a day. 3500 calories is one pound, so if you lose 2000 calories a day for say 10 days, thats like 6 pounds. Granted, the more you weigh the easier it is to lose weight. However, at 214 pounds, at 16, you probably need somewhere in the range of 3000-3500. If you drop to 2000 youll lose anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 a pound a day.
Exercise builds muscle, and burns calories. However, people are not fat from lack of exercise, they are fact from overabundance of food. Look at the label on the food you eat next. 2000 is a good calorie number for a man to shoot for if he wants to lose. Consider that sodas have anywhere from 100-200 calories. Would you rather have a chicken breast and baked potato, or a soda and a candybar? Whether you exercise or not, its simple math. Heres a link to a calorie needs calculator :

You can't just sometimes do work, you gotta do some jogging, etc. Work out (higher reps probably), and just be active... Don't eat a lot of fast food and "bad" foods either or you wont see them go away anytime soon.
