I live in Utah, so yea, there are mormon churches every minute you drive. They all look the same, with a big pointy thing on the top. Other churches have a cross, symbolizing Christ, who died for our sins. What does the long poing represent?

The steeple represents the Ascension of Jesus to the Heavens after resurrection.

A steeple or tower in association with a place of worship was a feature of ancient paganism, oriented to sun worship and fertility cultus. A common form, especially in Egypt, followed the geometric figure known as obelisk, which in places served also as a phallic symbol. Such pagan symbols are inappropriate in Christian churches.
Can't find why they still use steeples on churches even though the origins are pagan. Sorry. I tried.

The steeples are there to remind us to reach up to God.

We do not use the cross as our symbol because we believe that Jesus Christ did more for us than die on the cross. (Hundreds of people, good and bad, were crucified by the Romans.) Jesus Christ also suffered to pay the price for our sins, and was resurrected to overcome death for us.

Pointing to heaven, and Heavenly Father.

We don't put up crosses because they were one of the most inhumane forms of torture known to man. We don't celebrate the death of Christ, as much as His life.

They are called "steeples" and they point to Heaven to remind us of God and Jesus in Heaven.... At least that is what I have always thought. I am a Mormon.

They are called steeples. They are supposed to inspire congregants' thoughts towards heaven.
