The Catholic religion is the oldest Christian religion. Branches broken off from that are Protestant religions, such as Baptist, Lutheran, Anglican, and, yes, the non-denominational.
Atheists lack the belief in any god, Christian or otherwise.

Protestant is a catchall name for any christian religion that was created after the reformation or isn't Catholic or Eastern Orthodox, ie: Lutheran, Episcopalian, Baptist, Methodists, Calvinists, Anglicans, Quakers, ect.
Atheist means not belonging to religion, does not not believe in gods.

About the same as between you and a puppy. Entirely different things altogether. I sure hope you jest, or this is the most rediculous question I've ever read.

Hello. An atheist is someone who does NOT believe in God (i.e. denies the existence of God). Of course they are refusing the witness of God found in creation, and even so are thus guilty before God as to their sins. As for what a Protestant is, let's start off with Catholicism. In Catholicism, they believe in having priests and a pope to be an intermediary and pray to deceased saints. The problem that is that we have and need ONLY one mediator (or intermediary) and that was perfectly done in Jesus Christ of Nazareth! As for praying to the saints, those who are in heaven with Jesus are at REST and their labor is no more. Besides this, I do not believe God has them knowing everything happening as they are in rest and He is in charge! Catholics believe in purgatory, an intermediate place to rid one's self of sins before reaching heaven. That's a fallacy. Catholics believe and put far more weight and relevance in Mary, while Protestants put much more weight and relevance on Jesus Christ who died for the Church and the sins of the world. Protestants don't have anyone as their intermediary as Jesus was and is the ONLY one needed. HE is the Savior of the Church and is the HIGH PRIEST who intercedes for the Church. Mary will one day bow her knee and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, as will all of us... even so the devil. Catholics read the Apocrypha, some extra-canonical writings that did not pass the test for canonicity. These writings are not inspired by the Holy Spirit but are rather subjective writings by others. There are some interesting stories in it, but we base our salvation and inheritance in Christ based on the canonical books of God's word. I hope this clears things up for you.

They do not follow teachings of Catholic church. Atheists do not believe in deity, Protestants follow Jesus. : )
