Maybe he was not the Greatest General of all time but he came pretty close. Woodrow Wilson sent a 6,000 troop "Expedition Force" led by Gen. John J. Persing, and an eight airplane force was also launched its first air combat mission to find Villa. Villa's Army was never found and the search was called off.

No, Pancho wasn't a general. He was a renegade bandito. Best general of all time was Alexander the Great, who ruled the world at age 21.

No he was a bandit. two of the best generals of all time were George Patton and William Tecumseh Sherman. They knew that in war there are no rules and you should bring the fight to the enemy and their supporters. They knew fully well that war should be felt and seen by both the enemys military AND civilian supporters so that war would be reviled and discouraged by future generations of those same people. War IS hell, not a contact sport, and they made damn sure that the enemy knew that. There should be more generals like that.

I'm not sure he was a general, but if he was the answer is no. I vote for Hannibal the Carthagenian, who nosed out Alexander the Great.
