No one of us human being could tell whether we will be save or not because it is only God who could judge us.As a living human being we are bound to commit sin and we are sinning without having notice it.
Anyway continue with your devotion to God and please read the bible, Old and New Testament inorder to follow the law of God which was written on the said bible.

Salvation can be a personal affair. However, the Bible is clear on how one can be saved. Maybe you can invite your friend to a Bible study and show him from the Bible how one can be saved. But do it gently and do not do it forcefully.
You or the pastor can show him John 3:16, Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38. Sometimes, it takes time for a person to be saved. Respect his decisions and choices and gently explain the gospel to him.
To be saved,
one needs to repent of his sins, be baptised in Jesus name and receive the Holy Spirit, as according to Acts 2:38, 8:16, 19:1-5.
You can give testimony of how Christ has changed your life. You may like to inform him that being saved is not according to man's opinions but on what the Bible says. Obedience to the Word of God is better than man's opinions.

I think your youth pastor and the pastor, should be the ones to have a private talk with him, he may be just confused about somethings. They probable could communicate with him better than you. Or, You could have your friend go with you to the youth pastor and just set down and talk about it. But what ever, don't embarrasses him in any way.

Just because he doesn't do it the way you think he should doesn't mean he isn't saved. You are getting hung up on the ritual and losing sight of the purpose. Asking the lord into your life is the act of opening your heart to him. The words are just for show.
If he feels the Lord is with him, then He is. There is no way to fake that feeling.

The Lord need not be asked-he makes the decisions and saves all regardless of theology, creeds, rules and regulations. No person qualifies to be the gatekeeper for the Lord. Be glad and rejoice that he is saved.

The answer is in your friend's heart. Did he really feel a communication with God? Then even if he didn't say it quite right, God knows.
He will learn over time, and correct his mistake. Just be patient and loving. God knows the heart of every person on the earth, and our intentions matter a lot to Him.

So your youth pastor did not pray the sinners prayer with your friend?
Elaborate please.
You need to ask your friend if he would like to ask Jesus to come into his life. You can do it yourself. Pray with him.

It would be good to find the scriptures that will tell him what it takes in order to be saved and show them to him. Also explain to him what the scriptures mean(if he does not know). May God BLess U.
