I don't want to do it, but don't know how to get help. I want to call 911 tonight or take myself to the ER because I am going to do it if I don't get help soon. Can anyone please tell me how things go down when someone calls 911 for that? Will they send the police to my house and embarrass me in front of everyone I live with (I do not want them to know), or take me away in an ambulance? Whats the procedure for walking into the ER? Seems like a silly thing to do, just to walk in and say "I'm going to kill myself." What will they do to me? Will they turn me away if I cannot pay?

Go to the emertgency room. Just tell them you need to see someone immediately because you want to kill yourself. No one is going to turn you away. Please go get help right now. Do not be embarrassed. Remember there is nothing so severe that it is worth taking your own life, and the fact that you are crying out for help, says that you don't really want to. You just need help getting through a rough spot, and thats okay, alot of people do sometimes. You'll be alright, just get some help now. In the emergency room, they will get you someone to talk to and begin to figure out where these thoughts are coming from. You'll then be on the road to recovery which sounds like where you want to be. Godd luck, I'll say a prayer for you tonight.

Oh please get to the ER A.S.A.P! You tell them that you are having suicidal thoughts and they will help you and they will not judge you or embarass you there. If they do not have the facilities there to help you they will have you transported to a hospital that can help you. If you do not think you can make it to the ER then please by all means call 911 and they will send an ambulance out along with the police but the police only come to take a report and no one is told what is going on and then you will be transported by the ambulance. I hope you are getting the help you need. You will NOT be turned away if you cannot pay because you are suicidal. They want to help you. I hope you get to feeling better~

Go to the Er yourself (if you want to save yourself from your roommates) -- however, the wouldn't send the police to your house, just an ambulance, if you can't go to the hospital by yourself. As for going there, register and tell the nurse just that -- "I am extremely suicidal, and think I will do it tonight if I get the chance". They'll take you seriously. After that, expect to see a "Mental Health Nurse" who will have a long chat with you, who then you will see an ER doctor, he'll look at the situation and decided whether you need to be refered to a psychiatrist, or any medicines he could give you to atleast relax. In dire dire straights, they would possibly admit you into the hospital for observation, but that is very unlikely unless you have 1) Tried to commit suicide that night 2) exhibited Self-Harm 3) Were not in the frame of mind to go home by yourself -- high risk behaviour.

Mostly, it's not that scary to get help. It's a long road, but it is worth it. It's not silly to go to the Er, what is silly is to give up out of fear; even when you don't want to be in the world. The bright side, is you are reaching out and you don't want to: you just want the pain or the feeling to end.

Go to the doctor :) It'll be okay, promise.

Let me preface by saying I do work in an ER and understand how you might feel right now. It's normal to be afraid of the unknown.

If you go to an ER they will bring you in a try to do what they can to help. Money is not an issue. In fact it's illegal for us to turn away anyone who comes to us asking to see a doctor.
If you go to an ER, they'll bring you to a room, and have you get changed into a hospital gown. Many times they will have a "sitter" or someone there to watch while you're in the hospital for safety reasons.
Sometimes the process can take a little while but they will have a social worker or clinical coucelior come to talk to you, and work with you as to what they thing the best treatment options are for you.

All the nurses and doctors are there truly to help, and anyone of them would be happy to talk and listen to whatever you have to say. I hope that I've given you an idea of what to expect and I hope that you seek treatment.

No they will not turn you away if you can't pay. I'm not sure how happens when you call 911. If you go to the ER tell them that you need to talk with someone. Then they will get a counselor to talk with you. If they feel that you are in danger then they will admit you to the psych ward. It may sound scary but it's not really that bad. I've had to do this once myself..I was so terrified...It will take about a day or two to get in the swing of things but they DO help. When you go to the ER take a suitcase with clothes, shower gel, deodarant, ect. (try to have the shampoo and shower gel in plastic bottles). I also took a special stuff animal. I took pen and pencil and notebook(not spiralbound). They will go thru your stuff to make sure that you don't have anything you can hurt yourself with. Anything valuable they will lock up either in a safe or lock box with your name on it. You will work with a treatment team. Someone on your treatment team can help you get medicaid, or on some other program to help pay for the bill. So while you are in the hospital focus on YOU. Also if you need someone to talk to feel free to email me. My prayers will be with you.

Call 911 or get to the ER they will have a counselor talk to you. If the counselor is quite sure you may do it if home they will admit you to a 72 hour hold at a psych ward, This is a law otherwise known as a 5150

No one knows what to expect if you try suicide because if you succeed that is IT no one has ever come back to tell about it. I'm glad you do not want to do it because that means you won't do it. I read some of your previous questions and realize your problems. You said you are very afraid of people in one question. I have learned that it is absolutely vital for a human to know they are needed and loved.

I also know if you are poor it is easy to get the impression no one cares for you. Poor people are often looked down on because they do not have the things that make them seem acceptable to others. In a desperate attempt to get some of the things that seem to them to make you acceptable you shoplifted and got caught. That act is wrong in the eyes of society and you know it'ts wrong but it is understandable to me.

What you have to do now is to understand that you have to pay for the wrong and learn from that experience that you are not a worthless person. That belief is why you are afraid of people and why you want so desperately to get approval from others. That approval comes to you when you accept yourself for what you are, love yourself and forgive others for not loving and needing you. Then start on the road to gaining some confidence in yourself. Your first step in doing that was to ask these questions; to ask for help.

As for what to expect if you call 911 or go to an emergency room and announce you are about to commit suicide that depends on the laws of the state you are in but it might not be an easy time.

If this does not make you aware that your not an outcast and there is help you can always call the "Adolescent suicide prevention hotline" at 1-877-700-3300 or 1-800-273-TALK for the "national suicide prevention helpline." In any case you need to talk to people and get help. You have faced this alone long enough. Talk it out with others, face to face as you have here, and be honest with yourself and them! That is the second step in gaining self confidence.

Good luck, good mental health, peace and love!

There are several numbers there. Otherwise, everyone above said it all. You really don't want to do this, and that's why you're reaching for help. That's a great thing. Just hang in there and get yourself to the emergency room safely.
