The situations are completely different. In Iraq, you had a dictator (he was elected but the people had no choice because soldiers accompanied them to vote). Then you have four major groups that really wanted power, one was more heavily armed than the rest. So we oust Saddam then what happens? The Baathists remain in control and put another dictator up, eventually you have civil war. US goal there now is to guide a democratic government into a stable existance and leave only when it has the means to effectively govern its citizens. This means it needs a trained police force, a trained military and public service programs that work.
Iran however has a viable government infrastructure which can outlast a war. The people are more educated and political roadmaps toward rebuilding would be implemented much easier. We would still want to "help it along" but we would not have to work as hard as we did with Iraq.

Any war with iran will not be instigated by them. US has a history of pre-emptive strikes which usually lead to terrible consequences. And US completely messed iraq up, they attacked a well developed country and left it in a state of civil war. Only war i think was justified would be the war in Afghanistan.

No with Shrub in charge, that would also be a miserable failure. What kinda fool would fight a war on two fronts? Didn't you neocons learn anything from the mistakes of Rome and Germany?
Edit: Iappreciate what you are saying. But the US is overextend on two fronts in Afghanistan and Iraq. So the USA is pretty much powerless against Iran. There really isn't much one can do against Iran unless you want to piss of countries like China and India who one debt of this country. Sorry but those are the consequences of the Gulf War, the USA becoming more irrelevant.....

I wonder why they (from their perspective) would feel driven to war?
It couldn't have anything to do with the distrust created by the British-inspired and American executed coup in 1953, could it?
By propping up the Shah of Iran as "their man", America and Britain basically ignited the fire that burst out in the Islamic revolution of 1979.
Sowing the wind, reaping the whirlwind.
Yes, Britain and America owe Iran something but they're reluctant to admit it, preferring to consider only 1979 and more recent events.

It's always the duty of the invading country to rebuild the conquered country as they see fit, if you don't "fix" their government system the exact same thing will happen over again.
With that said I think its time we learned from our mistakes, and keep our noses out of the Middle East. We're making far more enemies then we're killing, invading another country will only lead to more support for Islam, hence the reason Iran is instigating.

The US helped rebuild Germany and Japan after WWII because of their importance to stability of the regions and US national interests. The US would probably do the same in Iran if it had to. An unstable Iran would be too dangerous for the US to do otherwise.

Sure, we always stand 'em up after we knock 'em down. We've been doing this since WWII! I think it's a Bulls**t policy considering how screwed up our economy is, but yeah we'd cave in and build 'em up again!
