My girl and I where having a discussion about saying whom says hello first when entering a car. I say it's the person entering the car & she says it's the person already in the car. Same thing for the home situation, who says it first the person already there or the person entering.

I say it is definitely the person entering. You are entering the car or the home and it is impolite if you do not speak. If you are entering the car, the person is giving you a ride obviously so you should great them with a smile and a hello. When you entering someone else home, or even your own home, if someone else is there you should be the one to say hello first because you dont even know if they heard you enter. I just basically think that if you are not already there, you should speak, because what if they dont. You are going to look like the one that is rude.

I think it depends on the persons involved. The driver could say hello first or maybe the person entering the car could do the same first. Same for at a home or work etc.

This is one of those things that don't really matter. It seems that the situation will generally solve itself.

However, if one of the people is a VIP, like royalty, then I think that person should acknowledge the other one first.

I can't really think of a situation in which a royal and non royal would be entering the same car, tho.

if the person getting in the car approaches the car from the front ( they walk in front of the car to get to the passenger door) then the driver should say hello first. the reason for this is that the passenger is making a presentation by walking in front of the vehicle. if the passenger approaches the car from the right side or the rear of the vehicle, they should say hello first.

I say the person already in the car, but when it doesn't happen after the first second or so, I just say Hi myself.

I like this question, bc I've never seen it before.

I think the person in the car says hello first; when I open the door at home, I say hi first. or maybe it's simultaneously.

The person in the car, and the person in the home, is welcoming the other person into their space, so they say hello first. But don't make a big deal of it. If the greeting isn't forthcoming, then step forward and say 'hello' yourself.

The person in the car already should always say "Hello" first =D ... it's polite =) It's awkward if you wait.

In my life, I ride to work with another woman, and we usually end up saying "good morning" at about the same time. It doesn't matter who is getting in or is already in the car.
