It would appear to me that the correct form would be "Te simpatizo mucho", meaning I like you very much. Te being the
direct ojbect pronoun for you and simpatizo being Yo simpatizo or I like. I guess I'm wrong but I don't know why.

Me simpatiza mucho means i like you (formal) or i like him/her very much

Te simpatizo mucho means you like me very much.

According to the RAE (Real Academia Española) it's used that way because:

"the subject is the cause of the likeness, the pleasure [therefor the person who makes the action], and the person who feels it is expressed by the indirect object"

Hope that helps ;)

It does not. Simpatizar is one of those weird verbs that isn't really used much, as a verb. Simpático/a (noun) is more common.

First off, "me simpatiza mucho" is incorrect. And so is "Te simpatizo mucho". You just can't use this verb like that. You can say "simpatizo contigo", "simpatizaba con ella", "simpatizaban con nosotros". Always the "con" is needed when using this verb.

Me simpatiza mucho is not well said , u have to omit the "me" and say simpatizo mucho con ella if you are telling this to another person or simpatizo mucho contigo if you are talking straight to her
Simpatizar= get on with, hit it off with somebody.
I like you very much is Me gustas mucho.

It's hard to understand why. Some verbs in Spanish are like this. "Te simpatizo mucho" means "You like me very much".

Well the simpatiza is the the Ud form. So if you wanted to say the tú form it would be Me simpatizas mucho. So it all means You (formal) get along very good with me.

My husband and I agree that it means I like him/her a lot (as a person, not like a crush type of "like").

If you understand the concept of the phrase "me gusta" then you realize that literally means "it pleases me". Kind of the same thing here.
