too many people like to label things as "a sin", we all do bad things for our bodies, whether it is smoking, worrying, over eating, or getting too angry. all of these might be called transgression, but the good news is that Jesus was wounded for our transgressions. the less we worry about sins we are committing the healthier we will be.

The Bible does not directly address any form of illicit drug use. There are no express prohibitions against cocaine, heroin, ecstasy (MDMA), or methamphetamines (Meth). There is no mention of marijuana, peyote, magic mushrooms, or acid (LSD). Nothing is said about huffing, snorting, dropping, smoking, shooting, licking, or any other method of ingestion. This is not to say, however, that recreational drug use is permissible. On the contrary, there are several very clear Biblical principles which place drug use well outside the realm of acceptable behavior.
To begin with, we are under a universal mandate to respect and obey the laws of the land (Deuteronomy 17:2; Ecclesiastes 8:2-5; Matthew 22:21; 23:2-3; Romans 13:1-7; Titus 3:1; 1 Peter 2:13-17; 2 Peter 2:9-11). The ONLY instance in which we are allowed to disobey the laws of the land is when the laws violate any divine imperatives (Daniel 3 and 6; Acts 5:29). There are no other exceptions to this rule. Contrary to popular belief, simply disagreeing with a law does not constitute a license for breaking that law.
Many have argued that marijuana, easily the most benign of the illicit drugs, does not warrant prohibition. They contend that smoking pot in defiance of the law is justifiable on these grounds and in light of (what they perceive to be) the hypocrisy of outlawing weed while allowing nicotine and alcohol consumption. Those who argue this point may be sincere in their conviction but they are mistaken nonetheless. Heartfelt disdain for the law does not justify impunity towards it, as our Lord Himself made clear. While rebuking the Pharisees for turning the Law of Moses into an excessively oppressive yoke, Christ still required His disciples to submit to their unfairly harsh demands (Matthew 23:1-36, especially 1-4). Dutiful submission to authority and patient perseverance through unjust suffering and/or perceived unfairness (1 Peter 2:18-23) is God’s high standard for us – even if that means having to abstain from weed in compliance with “unfair” legislation.
Not only are we to submit to authority for submission’s sake, born-again Christians are further constrained by a mandate to live above reproach for the sake of the Gospel (1 Corinthians 10:32; 2 Corinthians 4:2; 6:3; Titus 2:1-8; 2 Peter 3:14). Needless to say, criminality is highly reproachable.

Where exactly is the evidence that smoking the weed hurts your body? I think breathing in diesel exhaust is much more harmful (you know, from trucks that transport merchandise to shops [ie bibles, Christmas trees, building materials for churches, plasma TVs, KFC, groceries, etc.)

Now that I have read through all the kiddie answers. Want an adult answer, from a person who has smoked for 20+ yrs and has researched it for those 20 yrs.
1. It does not make you dumb, kill brain cells or anything like that. ZERO evidence to support this and is just a false scream by those who have no clue.
2. George Washington was the largest hemp farmer in the new USA. Just remember that.
3. The very guy, who has screamed for 30 yrs that pot is bad, pot kills, blah blah. Has released the most recent study on the topic. Guess what his findings were? That it is not harmful and it actually cures cancer. And it DOES NOT CAUSE LUNG CANCER AT ALL.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/25/AR2006052501729.html
4. Those who say its a sin, that its against God. Have never read their bible to even say such a statement. For in the very first chapter it states:
Genesis 1:29
Then God said, " I give you every seed bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food."
Well you can't say this is a miss translation, or someone who didn't know what they were talking about. Cause its clearly God himself speaking. So are you saying God is wrong? Is marijuana not a seed bearing plant that is on this earth?
5. Has it not been used by almost every form of people on this planet for a healing purpose all through history? Have the Chinese, Japanese, Asians not all used it for such practices? What about the Native American Indians? Even our own Government sends tin cans of pre-rolled joints out to those citizens that have certain illnesses, for they too recognize the power of healing.
6. Most are brainwashed on the topic and have no clue past what they were told to repeat. They have no research on the topic nor any foot to stand on with any life experience to back it up.
7. Those that claim pot is a gateway drug or causes issues. Sorry, all those can be traced down to other issues in that persons life and they used marijuana as a crutch to hide from those issues. Marijuana did not make them hide, they choose to hide.
8. To prove it does not make one stupid. To see me you would never even think twice I smoke. Past clean cut, blond, blue eyes, preppy guy. Even own a business. Not to mention, since I have smoked I have tested my IQ from time to time. Well over all the years it has increased, not decreased. At 18 I was around 109, basic average joe. Today, at 38, and smoking least 1 time per day, my IQ is a 146 and still going up. That is well into the genius level, so it makes one dumb? okay, whatever.
9. Now you can have issues by how you intake it. For example if you use a brass pipe to smoke out of. This can be poisonous to you. But most would relate this illness to the marijuana instead of the fact they sucked on brass. So one must be smart and either use wood, glass, stone or actually cook it down and prepare it in foods or as butter on foods.
10. The myth that it harms the body is just that, a myth. I am living proof of that. I do not eat right, never have, mainly junk food diet. I drink at least 9 cans of pop a day. I don't exercise or belong to a gym. Yet I look 10 yrs younger than I really am, my last check up said I was as healthy as a 21 yr old. Oh, I smoke a pack of cigs a day and have for the past 23 yrs. Now the cigs are bad, I know, and trying to quit them. But I do believe smoking marijuana all these yrs has kept me from getting diabetes, ulcers, cancer, etc from the bad life style I have had. Cause I can just look at dad, who doesn't smoke pot but does all the same as I do. Well he's in bad bad shape and eats 53 pills every day. Me.....I don't eat a single pill.

The first thing that someone should be considering is whether the idea of sin is actually real.
If God is supposed to be perfect how could She have made anything or anyone that wasn't perfect.
Think about it. The idea of sin assumes certain things about God that seem highly unlikely.
First it assumes a God who is too incompetent to organize a simple educational field excursion and figure out a way to get all of the students home safely.
How likely is this that God would not be smart enough to come up with a plan for our salvation that is going to work 100 percent of the time?
It also assumes that God must have created us imperfect if we are sinners.
One might assume that God would be able to create someone perfect each and every time if he chose to. Assuming God is capable of this, then it follows logically that we must be perfect creations if we are actually creations of this perfect God.
Unless of course you are saying that God chose to create us imperfect.
If God created us imperfect then anything that may go wrong is Gods fault, not ours. This seems a bit illogical at best so I think that we need to assume that What God creates would have to be perfect.
If this is the case and Gods creations are perfect, then nothing that we can do could change what God created perfect and make it imperfect unless we think that we are more powerful than God is.
How likely is it that we the creation could be more powerful than the creator. I personally find this idea somewhat amusing, and a bit absurd.
Religion tells us that God is perfect. If this is true then it could hardly be logically for Gods creations to be considered to be anything less than perfect.
If this is the case and we are perfect creations of a perfect God then Nothing that we can ever do could possibly change this perfection that God willed, unless we were so powerful that our choices could override and change the will of God.
How likely is that????
Think about it.

If smoking weed is a sin then so is smoking tobacco, drinking alcohol, drinking coffee or tea. They all contain very harmful substances.
The real question is - how do you like to harm yourself

Hi Devin,
We are told that our body is a Temple of the Lord thus since smoking POT is killing brain cells I would say that it is a SIN to do so. Have a great evening.
Thanks,

ummm....yes. Things that hurt your body, God's creation, are sinful. Over indulgence is also a sin, over eating (getting fat), ever drinking (getting drunk), etc.
Weed hurts your brain in 15 seconds of inhaling it, not "eventually".
