Why do otherwise intelligent people persist in associating "enlightenment" with the mamby pamby, off-the-rack, knee-jerk behaviors of the weak such as "kindness" and "generosity?" Let's throw-in "gentleness", "compassion" and "humility" while we're at it.
Why is enlightenment so commonly considered to be the sole province of rare examples like Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Theresa when history, in the words of Thomas Carlyle, "is but the biography of a few great men."
Sir Winston Churchill, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Joseph Stalin, Hirohito, General George Washington, Attila the Hun and Alexander the Great all qualify--like them or not. As do Cesar, Leonardo, Queen Boudicca and Sir William Wallace.
None of them touchy-feely hothouse flowers by nature.
Even Jesus was FAR from being a humble wimp: apart from his maddeningly fearless stance against the suppression of the Roman Empire, he had the balls to stand against his own organized religion ("He truly prays who prays alone") and the muscle to physically "cast the money changers from the temple."
"Enlightenment" is a movable feast. And the teachings of history, the only true learning we have access to, support the notion that the only God we come "face to face with" is staring right back at us in the bathroom mirror.

I'm just amazed at how many people can't stomach even the idea of "God" and yet find themselves in the religious section of the questions and answers when they could be either elsewhere or simply ignoring the questions they find so "boring". Do you see that??? Some people are plain suckers for punishment as it were... or chronic complainers or else, they'd go play somewhere else, I'm sure!!!
As for me, the answer is of course yes! and I relish in the idea that my whole life is lived in His face daily as I need Him by my side always and would have been dead meat a long time ago without his spirit and guidance as Jeremiah 10:23 will show that it doesn't even belong to me to direct my own footstep without Him and the generous guidance found in His word, the Bible.

Of course. If your enlightened you'd already be kind to others. The whole idea of being enlightened is to connect with God. (whatever God you believe in).

i came face to face with a spirit being, and enlightenment followed when i chose to, FAith followed that, and ignorance was covered by mercy.
but life is hard with the knowledge of the existence of God and Jesus His Only begotten Son,
One of hte apostles wrote, that WE of all men are most miserable.
its what we do that proves our faith, not what we profess, and then in the face of extreme terror, can we still hold our faith and testimony.

I'd prefer not to see God until my time comes to be at the mercy seat.
