Phospholipid under the action of enzymes phospholipaseC and phospholipase A 2 converts to Arachidonic acid which under the influence of enzyme PGH2 synthase becomes Prostaglandin H2.
Prostaglandins and their immdiate derivatives along with synthetic analogues act on a variety of cells, and have a wide variety of actions:
Like for example

cause constriction or dilation in vascular smooth muscle cells
cause aggregation or disaggregation on platelets
cause pain in spinal neurons
constrict smooth muscle
regulate inflammatory mediation
regulate calcium movement
regulate hormone regulation and
control cell growth
